OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Student Support Teaching Assistant (SSTA) supports students by enhancing student engagement,
achievement, wellbeing, and inclusion. Working under the direction of the ILC Coordinator, the SSTA provides targeted support to individual students and small groups, and contributes to a safe, inclusive,
and supportive learning environment.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Support individual students and small groups based on the needs of the cohort.
- Implement learning adjustments and inclusive practices.
- Support literacy, numeracy and intervention programs.
- Provide wellbeing, behaviour and supervision support.
- Maintain records and assist with administrative tasks.
- Collaborate with teachers, families and specialist staff.
- Participate in professional learning and development.
- Assist with after School co-curricular programs as needed
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Junior School or his/her delegate.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- Competent ICT skills (particularly iPads) and knowledge of applications frequently used in an
educational setting.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Certificate III or IV in Education Support.
- Working with Children Check (employee) clearance.
- Qualifications in School Based Education Support and experience working with students with
additionally learning needs would be advantageous.
- MacqLit training is highly desirable.
Junior School
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Working hours are expected to be 7:45am to 3:45pm
- This is a full-time, term-time only role.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY RELATIONSHIPS The Head of Junior School
- SSTA is responsible to the Head of Junior School for the overall aspects of his/her work.
The Deputy Head of Junior School
- SSTA takes direction from the Deputy Head of Junior School on day to day matters as required to ensure the smooth operation of the Junior School The Director of Primary Curriculum (PYP Coordinator)
- SSTA is supervised in their work on a day-to-day basis by the Director of Primary curriculum The Director of Students (Pre-K to Year 6)
- SSTA works collaboratively with the Director of Students to ensure the well-being of all children in the Junior School The ILC Coordinator (Pre-K to Year 6)
- SSTA works collaboratively with the Individual Learning Coordinator (Pre-K to Year 6) to ensure
support and assistance of students. The Director of Junior School Staff Operations & Student Admissions
- SSTA takes direction from the Director of Junior School Staff Operations a required to ensure
supervision of students is adequately covered throughout the day.
Year Coordinators
- SSTA works collaboratively with Year Coordinators to ensure support across all classes on a grade level on which they are assigned.
Staff Members
- SSTA works collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure the smooth operation of classes and the academic and well-being needs of all students are supported.
Parents and the wider community
- Represent the School, its policies and interests, in a positive and qualified manner in accordance with the overall School Mission and Strategic Plan.
