Our client is an established consumer goods organisation operating in a commercially dynamic and regulated workplace.

With a broad range of internal stakeholders across Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, People & Culture and IT, the business offers an experienced Legal Counsel the opportunity to work closely with management and play an active role in commercial decision-making and risk management.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to provide practical, commercially focused legal support across the business.

Reporting to the Corporate Services Director, you will act as a trusted business partner across commercial contracts, negotiations, employment matters, disputes, compliance, intellectual property and insurance.

The role also offers exposure to legal process improvement, technology and the responsible use of AI within the legal function.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Contracts & Negotiations

- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of customer, supplier, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, services, technology and commercial agreements.
- Lead or participate in negotiations with customers, suppliers and external parties.
- Identify contractual risks and recommend commercially workable solutions.
- Maintain and improve contract templates, clause libraries and contracting processes.

Legal Advisory & Business Partnership
- Provide practical legal advice to management and business functions.
- Support significant commercial matters, transactions and higher-risk issues.
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance and other internal stakeholders.
- Identify legal risks and provide proportionate mitigation strategies.

Compliance, Employment & Disputes
- Advise on commercial law, Australian Consumer Law, privacy, corporate compliance and related regulatory matters.




- Support employment and workplace matters alongside People & Culture.
- Manage commercial disputes, claims and potential litigation.
- Coordinate external legal advisers where specialist support is required.

IP, Insurance & Governance
- Advise on intellectual property, brand protection, licensing and confidentiality matters.
- Support insurance reviews, contractual insurance obligations and claims.
- Review marketing and consumer-facing materials where legal input is required.
- Support corporate governance, legal policies and compliance frameworks.

Legal Operations & Improvement
- Improve legal workflows, templates and knowledge management processes.
- Support the responsible adoption of AI and legal technology.
- Develop practical legal guidance and training for employees and managers.
- Maintain accurate legal records, registers and matter documentation.

Skills & Experience

- Minimum 5 years of experience in an equivalent in-house Legal Counsel role.
- Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor or equivalent recognised legal qualification.
- Admitted to practise law in Australia and able to hold an appropriate current practising certificate.
- Strong hands-on experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Sound knowledge of commercial law, Australian Consumer Law, corporate compliance and employment / workplace matters.
- Experience handling disputes, IP, insurance or related commercial legal matters.
- Strong commercial judgement with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
- Confident working directly with senior management and non-legal stakeholders.
- Experience within FMCG, consumer health, consumer goods or another regulated product environment is highly regarded.
- Comfortable using technology and exploring practical applications of AI within legal workflows.
