About Us:

Established in 1965, Wallis Drilling provides a diverse range of drilling services for exploration and mining projects. As part of the business, we also operate a comprehensive maintenance and inhouse design & manufacture facility at our main base at Hazelmere in Perth. Along with fleet repairs and modifications we also design and manufacture bespoke drilling rigs & associated equipment for our contract business.

We take pride in building some of the most innovative semi-autonomous drill rigs and support equipment available in the industry.

As part of our in-house design team, incorporating mechanical, mechatronic, and software design capability and a new purpose-built manufacturing facility that features fabrication, machining and fitting capability you will be provided with the opportunity to create solutions, see these ideas through the build process, commissioning then finally operating in the field.

The Role

We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson to join our design team based at our Hazelmere facility in Perth reporting to the Mechanical Engineer. You will contribute to the design and technical drawing process across a range of exciting projects. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.

You will be responsible for developing detailed drawings and designs that are not only accurate and functional, but also practical and productive to manufacture.



This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys solving practical problems, working collaboratively, and seeing their designs become real-world products.

Responsibilities and Duties:

- Produce detailed 3D detail drawings using Autodesk Inventor (3D modelling and detailing).

- Specify and document material requirements, tolerances, surface finishes, and fabrication sequences.

- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, fabrication shops, and procurement to maintain schedule and budget.

- Perform design reviews, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacture/assembly assessments.

- Support hot processing equipment concepts and related safety/compliance considerations.

- Maintain accurate BOMs, assemblies, and change-control records; manage CAD data and documentation.

Minimum Requirements

- 3 years of mechanical design/drafting experience in heavy machining and large-scale fabrication.

- Strong understanding of welding details and machining specifications; AS 1554.

- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (3D modelling and detailing).

- Ability to read and interpret complex Models and translate designs to details drawings.

- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

- Self-motivated, hardworking, and able to thrive in a small, focused team.
