Our Future Focus is looking for kind, patient and reliable Support Workers to join our small teams supporting children with autism and their families.
This is more than a traditional support worker role. You will become part of a small, consistent team around a child and their family, helping them build skills, confidence, connection and a meaningful life at home and in the community.
About the role
We are currently recruiting Support Workers to provide 1:1 support to children with autism.
Support will include
- In-home support after school
- Community access and participation
- Supporting children to engage in their interests and activities
- Supporting communication and social connection
- Building independence and everyday skills
- Personal care where required
- Working collaboratively with parents, family members and the child’s broader support team
- Following individual support, communication and behaviour strategies
The current role involves: 3 afternoons per week after school, plus every Saturday for approximately 4–5 hours.
We are particularly looking for someone who can provide consistent, reliable support and who understands the importance of building a trusting relationship with a child and their family.
About you
You don’t need formal qualifications to apply. Experience is more important to us.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children with autism
- Understands that every child communicates and experiences the world differently
- Has experience with Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), such as communication devices, visual supports,
Key Word Sign or other communication systems
- Is patient, calm and kind
- Is confident working 1:1 with a child
- Is reliable and committed to consistent shifts
- Is comfortable supporting children with personal care where required
- Enjoys getting out into the community and helping children participate in activities they enjoy
- Is a positive communicator and works well with families and other team members
- Can follow individualised support strategies while also thinking creatively about what works for the child
Female Support Workers One of the children currently being recruited for has a preference for female support workers.
There are also opportunities to work with children of both genders, including roles where personal care is required.
