About our team The Removal Operations Branch delivers Australia's immigration removal program, coordinating the removal of unlawful non-citizens in accordance with the Migration Act 1958.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidates are proactive, adaptable, and results-focused. They will work effectively in dynamic environments, exercise sound judgement, and quickly develop expertise in the legislation and policies governing removal operations. APS6 Removal Officers lead teams and manage complex removal operations to support the timely removal of unlawful non-citizens from Australia.

Working under limited direction, they apply legislation and policy to determine removal requirements, make sound operational decisions, and coordinate outcomes with internal and external partners. They also support broader ABF and Departmental priorities, including whole-of-government responses to illegal foreign fishing and Operation Sovereign Borders.

- Interpret and apply legislation, policy and powers to support Immigration compliance
- Review and determine removal availability
- Lead planning of removal activities
- Supervise and conduct removal activities
- Communicate strategically in removal operations environment
- Supervise removals teams
- Conduct Quality Assurance.

Additional information

- A Minimum of Baseline (Protected) AGSVA security clearance,



some positions may require a higher level of security clearance
- Attainment and maintenance of role-specific qualifications
- Occupants of the role may be required to:
- Work outside standard hours, on shift work, or provide 'on-call' services
- Represent the Department at external forums
- Hold a current Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC)
- Hold a current driver's licence
- Hold a current Working with Children Check
- Hold operational readiness qualifications.

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:

- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
