About our team The Removal Operations Branch delivers Australia's immigration removal program, coordinating the removal of unlawful non-citizens in accordance with the Migration Act 1958.

Our teams operate across Australia (New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory, Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia) and work closely with government, law enforcement and international partners to deliver operational outcomes.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidates are proactive, adaptable, and results-focused. They will work effectively in energetic environments, exercise sound judgement, and quickly develop expertise in the legislation and policies governing removal operations. APS4 Removal Officers plan and deliver low to moderate-risk removals, primarily voluntary removals, in collaboration with internal and external partners, including foreign governments and law enforcement agencies.

They also support broader ABF and Departmental priorities, including whole-of-government responses to illegal foreign fishing and Operation Sovereign Borders.

- Assess removal availability
- Interpret and apply legislation, policy, and powers to support immigration compliance including:
- ­Demonstrate an understanding of, and be able to apply, delegations and powers as appropriate




- ­Identify and use appropriate legislative powers to perform enforcement actions

- Plan moderate to high risk and moderate to complex removal activities such as:

- ­Engage with removees and brief them regarding the removal process, and their immigration pathway
- ­Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders to obtain travel documents for removees, as required

- Contribute to and conduct removal activities including:

- ­Participating in removal briefings for planned operations and oversee operations at airports
- ­Providing updates regarding the status of removal activities to relevant departmental stakeholders to inform operational awareness and situational reporting.

Additional information

- A Minimum of Baseline (Protected) AGSVA security clearance, some positions may require a higher level of security clearance
- Attainment and maintenance of role-specific qualifications
- Occupants of the role may be required to:
- Work outside standard hours, on shift work, or provide 'on-call' services
- Represent the Department at external forums
- Hold a current Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC)
- Hold a current driver's licence
- Hold a current Working with Children Check
- Hold operational readiness qualifications.





To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:

- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
