Our valued rail engineering client is a highly respected global organisation specialising in the design, manufacture, overhaul and servicing of critical systems and components used throughout the rail industry.
n Operating from its Granville workshop in Western Sydney, the business provides specialist engineering, maintenance and overhaul services across sophisticated HVAC and rail equipment.
n This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Trades Assistant / Mechanical Operator to join an established engineering operation, working within a quality-focused workshop environment where safety, technical excellence, efficiency and continuous improvement are key priorities.

The Role: n

Working within the Granville workshop, you'll be responsible for supporting the mechanical and electrical assembly, maintenance, refurbishment and basic testing of company products and components.
n You'll apply practical mechanical and/or electrical skills while working under limited supervision and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company quality standards.
n Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited too:

n

n
- Perform mechanical and/or electrical assembly of company products and components.
n
- Conduct basic testing of completed products and assemblies.
n
- Support the refurbishment and maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical components.
n
- Assist with basic fault identification, diagnosis and reporting under supervision.
n
- Follow engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical manuals and work instructions when completing routine tasks.
n
- Use hand, power and machine tools safely and effectively.
n
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
n
- Report non-conformances and assist with corrective actions where required.
n
- Complete relevant checksheets and workshop documentation.
n
- Maintain 5S and workplace organisation standards.
n
- Participate in toolbox talks and continuous improvement initiatives.
n
- Support cross-functional tasks and maintain flexibility across different work cells.
n




- Assist coworkers when required or as instructed by the Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager.
n
- Provide buddy training to coworkers where instructed by the Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager.
n
- Ensure compliance with WHSE procedures, quality requirements and company standards.
n
- Take ownership of the WHSE, quality and efficiency of your own work.
n
- Maintain strong punctuality, attendance and personal time management.
n
- Complete other tasks as directed by Leading Hands, Supervisors or Managers.
n

Key Technical Experience: n

Ideally, you'll bring hands-on experience across:

n

n
- Mechanical and/or electrical fitting and assembly.
n
- Mechanical or electrical component refurbishment and maintenance.
n
- Use of hand, power and machine tools.
n
- Basic fault identification and diagnostic activities.
n
- Reading and interpreting basic engineering drawings.
n
- Working from Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical manuals and work instructions.
n
- Workshop or factory-based production environments.
n
- WHSE practices and quality control procedures.
n
- 5S and workplace organisation.
n
- Basic computer systems and documentation.
n

What You Need: nn
- Certificate II in Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical trade-related qualification, or equivalent experience.
n
- Previous experience as a Trades Assistant, Mechanical Operator or within a similar workshop/manufacturing environment.
n
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical and/or electrical fitting and assembly.
n
- Experience using hand and power tools within a workshop or factory environment.
n
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs and technical manuals.
n
- Basic fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
n
- Basic knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical principles.
n
- Familiarity with WHSE practices and quality control procedures.
n
- Basic computer skills.
n
- Strong attention to quality, safety and detail.
n
