Are you an experienced regulatory professional who knows how to navigate complex legislation, solve problems and have challenging conversations – while still delivering great customer service? The Town of Gawler is looking for a Senior Community Safety Officer to join our Community Safety team.

What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Manager Environment and Regulatory Services, you will play a key role in delivering Council’s Community Safety portfolio. You’ll be out in the community and working across a broad range of regulatory matters, including:

- Investigating complaints and complex compliance issues.
- Undertaking inspections and enforcement activities.
- Providing clear, practical advice to residents, including animal attacks, impounding, registrations and dog control.
- Supporting fire prevention inspections and bushfire risk management.
- Undertaking parking enforcement and investigating abandoned vehicles.
- Managing unsightly premises and environmental compliance matters.
- Preparing notices, orders and expiations.
- Gathering evidence and preparing information for potential court proceedings.
- Supporting team operations through leadership,



mentoring, rostering and problem-solving.
- Working collaboratively with Council teams, agencies, contractors and the wider community.

About You

You will be confident and professional in dealing with a diverse range of people, with the ability to exercise sound judgement and make appropriate decisions in challenging situations. You will remain calm and respectful under pressure and demonstrate a strong commitment to providing high-quality customer service. You will have excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to accurately record, manage and verify information. You will be reliable, knowledgeable and solutions-focused, with a genuine commitment to supporting community safety and contributing positively to the community.

You will communicate effectively with colleagues and liaise with relevant service providers and suppliers.

You will be required to work within established guidelines and processes, ensuring all work is undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation and within delegated authority.

You’ll ideally have:

- A Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services),



Certificate IV in Local Government (Animal Control and Regulation), similar qualifications, or willingness to obtain one.
- Current unimpeded class C driver’s license.
- Extensive experience in regulatory or inspectorial duties, preferably within Local Government.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience managing difficulty or sensitive situations.
- Excellent communication, investigation and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prepare accurate records, correspondencxe and reports.
- Use judgement and initiative to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
- A genuine commitment to customer service and positive community relationships.

Experience in Local Government, Civica Authority and Content Manager will be highly regarded, along with relevant Authorised Officer and Fire Prevention Officer qualifications.
