Western Downs Digital Park
Western Downs Digital Park is a major recent hyperscale data centre campus at Kogan in Queensland. Planned across multiple delivery phases, it brings together AI-ready data centres, energy infrastructure and a purpose-built campus environment. This is an opportunity to help shape the technical foundations of a critical new digital infrastructure asset from the ground up.
The role The Senior HV Engineer will lead the high-voltage design and technical integration required to connect and distribute power across Western Downs Digital Park. You will provide specialist leadership across primary substations, utility interconnection and the campus high-voltage network from concept through delivery, commissioning and handover.
You will be a key technical interface with network service providers, consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers and internal project teams, ensuring the HV solution is safe, compliant, reliable and aligned with WDDP's programme, commercial and operational requirements.
What you will lead
- Concept and detailed design for primary substations, including transformers, switchgear, protection, earthing and metering.
- The campus HV reticulation architecture serving multiple data-centre facilities and supporting infrastructure.
- Load-flow,
fault-level and protection-coordination studies, single-line diagrams and technical specifications.
- Utility and grid-connection interfaces, technical schedules, metering, asset boundaries and approvals.
- Technical risk associated with long-lead equipment, supply constraints, utility approvals and energisation milestones.
- HV technical support through procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
What you will bring
You will be a senior high-voltage engineer with deep substation, transmission, distribution or utility connection experience. You will combine detailed power-systems knowledge with the ability to coordinate complex interfaces and keep critical decisions moving against demanding programme milestones.
- At least 12 years of experience in HV substation design, network connections or utility-scale power infrastructure.
- Expertise across 33kV to EHV systems, transformers, switchgear, protection, earthing, metering and network studies.
- Strong knowledge of Australian grid-connection processes, the National Electricity Rules and relevant network and technical standards.
- Experience with data centres, mission-critical facilities or other major energy-intensive developments is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with ETAP, SKM PowerTools or an equivalent power-system analysis platform.
- An Electrical or Power Systems Engineering degree; chartership, NER registration and RPEQ status or eligibility are preferred.
The opportunity
This is a central technical role in a development where power availability, resilience and delivery certainty are fundamental. You will help define the HV platform for the initial campus and the expansion phases that follow.
