About the role
We are looking for talented economists and public policy professionals to work on major public inquiries and other research.
Joining our teams based in either Canberra or Melbourne, these positions offer the opportunity to undertake in-depth research and analysis and provide policy advice and recommendations to the Australian Government. The work is wide-ranging with topic areas that vary, including analysis of social issues, the workplace, economic growth, regulation, competition, economic infrastructure, resources and trade.
The Productivity Commission (PC) also monitors and reports on the equity, effectiveness and efficiency of government services, and undertakes significant work on policy of relevance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The key duties of the position include:
Successful applicants will be intellectually curious and bring a well-developed understanding of public policy development and applied economic analysis, supported by exceptional research skills. We also encourage applications from people who can communicate clearly and persuasively, build constructive working relationships, and effectively plan and progress their work.
Academic qualifications in economics, law or other fields relevant to public policy such as politics, philosophy and economics (PPE),
social policy, mathematics, statistics and data analysis, or evaluation are essential.
Quantitative and qualitative research skills, such as economic modelling, statistical analysis, evaluation or policy analysis, will be highly regarded.
A merit pool of suitable candidates may be established and used to fill similar vacancies, either on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis.
Eligibility To be eligible for employment with the PC, applicants must:
- be an Australian citizen or hold an Australian Citizenship
- be willing to undergo a security and character clearance (which may include, but not limited to, completing an identity verification check, police check, and obtaining/maintaining an Australian Government security vetting clearance if required by the role)
- provide evidence of mandatory qualifications (if applicable).
