About the role

Soul Hub is looking for an experienced, passionate part time Social Worker to join our staff team 4 days (28 hours) a week. The focus of this role will revolve around building rapport and providing information, advocacy, quality care and support for vulnerable guests. This role involves case management and working with a multidisciplinary team that includes both Soul Medical Clinic & volunteer teams.

Key responsibilities

- Supporting guests using evidence-based social work interventions

- Advocating on behalf of vulnerable guests for access to relevant services and supports

- Acting as a professional information and educational resource for staff members, volunteers, and guests in a fast paced changing workplace

- Maintaining accurate and up to date file notes and collection of key statistics

- Networking and maintaining relationships with community partners

- Working in a team-oriented approach with the ability to exercise autonomy as required

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

- Bachelor (Masters) of Social Work

- Case management experience & strong advocacy skills

- Sound knowledge and understanding of issues of intersectionality affecting vulnerable community members, particularly issues of housing instability

- Comprehensive knowledge of community resources and services

- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

- Ability to represent Soul Hub with a high degree of professionalism





- Computer literacy

- Excellent time management and organization

- Excellent resilience and self-care skills

- Willingness to uphold the core principles of social work and mandatory reporting guidelines

- Employment subject to clearance under the Working with Children Check and National Police Check

Desirable

- Professional experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health issues, trauma and or domestic violence

- Counselling Skills

- Research and Program Evaluation Skills

- Knowledge of local Housing Pathways, tenancy law, and housing policy

- Current First Aid

Since 2003, Soul Hub has provided a Convergence of Help for individuals experiencing homelessness, risk of homelessness, addiction, social isolation and mental health issues in Newcastle. The Soul Hub charity volunteers provide approximately 88,000 meals a year to members of our community. Our meals are a catalyst that allow us to support our guests on a deeper level. Soul Hub exists to provide a compassionate community response to a deep community need.
