The Strathmore Hotel is a long-established family-owned Adelaide hotel, located in the heart of the city opposite SkyCity and the Adelaide Convention Centre, and just a short walk from Adelaide Oval and the Riverbank precinct.

The hotel offers a diverse hospitality experience across multiple spaces, including Verandah Bar & Dining on the first floor, Café One Two Nine and Garden Bar on the ground floor, with a busy mix of dining, functions and events throughout the year.

We are now looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our kitchen team in Verandah Bar & Dining.

Verandah is our first-floor dining and bar space, offering an indoor/outdoor experience with a strong focus on quality food, great service and a lively atmosphere. This is a hands-on role suited to a chef who enjoys leading a team, working in a high-volume environment and being part of a busy, evolving hotel operation.

Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play an important role in delivering consistently high-quality food while helping lead and develop the Verandah kitchen team.

The Role

As Sous Chef, you will:

- Assist in the day-to-day running of the Verandah Bar & Dining kitchen, ensuring food quality and service standards are consistently maintained
- Take responsibility for the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef
- Assist with menu development and contribute creative ideas that reflect current food trends and customer expectations
- Lead, train and inspire a reliable kitchen team across high-volume service periods
- Work closely with the Head Chef to manage food and labour costs and minimise waste
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness and workplace safety
- Liaise closely with the Front of House team to ensure smooth and efficient service




- Be a hands-on leader who is prepared to work alongside the team during busy services
- Contribute to the broader kitchen operation of the hotel when required

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about hospitality and takes pride in delivering excellent food and a great customer experience.

You will have

- Relevant trade qualifications and experience as a Chef
- Previous experience in a Sous Chef or senior chef role
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- The ability to lead and motivate a kitchen team in a high-volume environment
- Experience across a diverse range of cuisines and service styles
- A genuine passion for food, menu development and current industry trends
- Solid knowledge and understanding of food safety and workplace health and safety
- An eye for detail and a commitment to consistent quality
- The ability to manage food and wage costs within budget expectations
- A positive, hands-on 'can-do' attitude
- A desire to continue learning, develop your skills and grow within the hospitality industry
