About the opportunity
Reporting to the Bushfire Mitigation and Audit Manager, the Senior Electrical Engineer – Infrastructure is responsible for delivering compliance to regulated energy entities, government partners and the Victorian community. You will be responsible for developing and reviewing bushfire prevention strategies, providing advice and reviewing energy entities business’ operations, maintenance strategies and asset management plans as well as conducting audits and inspections to ensure the safety of electrical infrastructure. This role is also responsible for reviewing the performance and operation of Rapid Earth Fault Current Limiters (REFCLs).

In this role, you will draw on industry insights of safety trends and engage and build strong relationships with key industry stakeholders so as to inform them of Energy Secure Victoria’s regulatory operations strategy. You will lead and support projects and initiatives and work in close collaboration with leaders and peers across Energy Safe Victoria’s divisions to ensure expertise is leveraged and integrated into the broader strategic goals.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing thorough knowledge in asset management systems and preventative strategies and programs to minimise the risk of electric lines starting fires (for example: new technologies, REFCL, industry training, incident investigation, risk assessment, audit programs,



inspection programs and KPI reporting);
- Assisting with the review of regulated entities asset management practices on electricity supply networks to sustainably mitigate potential hazards and risks as far as practicable;
- Reviewing, assessing, providing timely advice and making recommendations to Energy Safe Management on the deployment of technologies on networks so as to minimise the risk of electric lines starting fires and providing guidance and formal feedback to regulated energy entities;
- Reviewing and analysing databases to identify and report on safety trends and issues arising from electrical network incidents such as fire starts, asset failures, contacts;
- Leading and assisting with audits and the asset inspection program to assess regulated energy entities’ compliance with ESMS and BMPs;
- Providing advice to assist in the investigation of infrastructure incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements. Preparing technical reports, making enquiries and supporting evidence gathering for enforcement action; and
- Other relevant duties as required.

To be successful, you will have:

- A relevant qualification in engineering, asset management or equivalent qualification (either TAFE or University);
- In depth and up-to-date technical knowledge, gained from experience in electricity distribution and/or transmission;
- Expert knowledge of the principles and application of safety management and knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and standards;
- A comprehensive understanding and previous experience with safety management systems and formal safety assessment frameworks;
- Regulatory and previous auditing experience will be highly regarded.
