About the role

We're hiring two Graduate Backend Developers to help design, build and maintain the backend services that power our AI product. You'll work across APIs, databases, authentication, cloud infrastructure and data pipelines, writing production code from day one. As part of a small, early-stage team, you'll work directly with our founder and tech lead and get hands-on experience far beyond what a typical graduate program offers.

Key responsibilities

- Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs using NestJS, Node.js and TypeScript
- Design PostgreSQL database schemas and write efficient SQL queries, using Sequelize ORM
- Implement authentication and authorisation (including JWT) and follow API security best practices
- Build and maintain integrations with client HRIS platforms, including API mapping, ETL processes and data synchronisation
- Contribute to a microservices architecture and help make system design decisions
- Write Python scripts to import, transform and validate client data
- Containerise services with Docker and deploy to AWS through CI/CD pipelines
- Identify and fix performance issues across APIs and databases
- Use Git and GitHub for version control, pull requests and code reviews
- Write clear technical documentation for the team





About you

- Completed bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering (Honours), Information Technology, Computer or Software Engineering, Science (Computer Science major), Advanced Computing / Computing or related field
- 0 to 2 years' professional experience
- At least one completed internship in a software engineering or technology role
- Good Python skills
- Solid SQL skills and an understanding of relational database design
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- A strong sense of ownership. You test your work and don't "push and hope"
- Clear communicator who can explain technical work to both engineers and non-technical people
- Experience with, or strong exposure to, NestJS, Node.js and TypeScript
- Full working rights in Australia (Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a visa with unrestricted work rights)
