This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the protection of South Australia's valuable livestock industries, support rural communities, and play a key role in safeguarding our state's strong biosecurity reputation.
How You'll Make a Difference As the Veterinary Officer - Disease Surveillance, you will: Lead and deliver passive and targeted surveillance programs for the early detection of emergency animal diseases (EADs), helping protect South Australia's livestock industries and maintain market access.
Support the state's biosecurity system by monitoring disease prevalence and trends, analysing animal health information, and contributing to evidence-based decision making.
Build strong partnerships with private veterinarians, livestock producers, processors, industry groups, SA Health and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen disease surveillance and animal health outcomes.
Contribute to the development of South Australian specific protocols and procedures for the response to notifiable diseases, supporting preparedness and rapid response capabilities.
Provide trusted technical advice on animal health, welfare, biosecurity and emergency animal diseases, helping industry navigate changing requirements and emerging risks.
Play an important role in protecting livestock productivity, public health and consumer confidence while supporting the growth and sustainability of South Australia's primary industries.
About You You will bring: Qualifications in veterinary or animal science, including a Degree in Veterinary Science or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution registrable with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of SA.
Demonstrated knowledge of animal health and disease issues, with an interest in livestock health, biosecurity, disease surveillance and emergency animal disease preparedness.
The ability to identify, analyse,



evaluate and treat risks and use sound judgement when assessing animal health and biosecurity matters.
Strong relationship-building skills, with experience developing trusted networks across producer groups, private veterinarians and livestock stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex technical information into a form that is clearly understood and relevant to the audience.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, contribute to projects and work collaboratively in a dynamic setting, including emergency preparedness and response activities.
