Senior Associate / Special Counsel - Indirect Tax (6+ PAE) - Sydney

Our client is a leading Australian law firm with a highly regarded tax practice.

The Team

The Indirect Tax team acts for a broad client base, including multinational and listed companies, major developers, financial institutions and government bodies.

The practice covers GST advisory and disputes, transaction structuring, M&A;, property and infrastructure, and cross-border matters. The team also advises on GST risk reviews, ATO audits, rulings, voluntary disclosures and objections.

The Role

An excellent chance exists for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel (6+ years' PAE) to join the firm's Indirect Tax practice in Sydney.

Working closely with senior practitioners, you will:
Independently run complex GST matters, including audits, investigations and objection processes.
Advise on the indirect tax implications of high-value M&A;, property development and infrastructure transactions.
Assist clients with transaction design and restructuring, with a focus on property and financial services.
Assess indirect tax exposure and obligations arising from international and cross-border dealings.
Lead ATO engagements, including ruling applications,



voluntary disclosures and responses to information requests.
Partner directly with senior stakeholders to identify risks and provide commercially practical solutions.
Support the development of junior lawyers and play an active role in client development and broader practice initiatives.

Requirements

The ideally candidate will have 6+ years' post-admission experience in taxation law with a robust focus on indirect tax and GST.

Additionally, you will have:
Experience managing complex tax matters with a high level of autonomy.
Experience in transaction structuring and cross-border tax matters.
Robust commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex tax issues into practical advice.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience supervising and developing junior lawyers.
An interest in business development and building long-term client relationships.
