Permanent full-time (80 hours per fortnight) or permanent part-time positions are available, with part-time hours negotiable.
The OpportunityAs a Senior Medical Officer, you will providehigh-quality, best-practice primary healthcareto prisoners within your scope of practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
Comprehensive assessment and management of patients
Providing ongoing primary healthcare within the correctional environment
Managing acute and chronic medical conditions
Developing and implementing appropriate treatment and care plans
Referring patients to hospitals, specialist clinics and other health services when required
Working collaboratively with nursing, allied health and other healthcare professionals
Supporting continuity and quality of care
Contributing to clinical governance and contemporary healthcare practices
This is a varied role offering the opportunity to make a genuine difference to a population with complex healthcare needs.Opportunity to Establish Private PracticeOne of the unique attractions of this position is the potential opportunity toestablish a private medical practice alongside your Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service appointment.
The successful candidate may have access to support from local private hospitals, including:
Use of local private hospitalsessional roomsto assist with establishing your practice
Assistance withcredentialling and administrative requirements
Support in developing local referral pathways
Introductions to localGPs, physicians and surgeons

Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking a Senior Medical Officer who is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred healthcare.
You will have:
Appropriate medical qualifications
Current or eligibility for registration withAHPRA
Experience in primary care, general practice or a comparable medical environment
Strong clinical assessment and management skills
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
A commitment to evidence-based and culturally appropriate healthcare
The ability to work effectively within a correctional healthcare workplace
Doctors with an interest indeveloping a regional private practiceare particularly encouraged to enquire.
