Our client is a well-established Australian business in a heavily regulated sector, with continued investment in its cyber security capability.
They're hiring a Senior Cyber Security Engineer to take on the hands-on delivery, integration and continuous improvement of security controls across their on-premises, cloud and SaaS environments.
The role
You'll be a senior technical contributor within the Security Engineering team, working across complex security challenges and helping shape engineering standards and solutions.
The role is hands-on, with a focus on technical depth, automation and solving complex problems, while also supporting and sharing knowledge with the wider team.

What you'll do
Design, build, configure, test and deploy security controls across on-premises, cloud and SaaS environments
Own and optimise assigned security platforms, including architecture, configuration, tuning, lifecycle and vendor management
Design, review and govern network security policies, including firewall rules, segmentation and secure connectivity
Apply scripting, workflow automation, APIs and DevOps-style practices to improve the efficiency, consistency and auditability of security engineering work
Manage SIEM/log onboarding, tune detection use cases and alert logic, and support vulnerability remediation across technology teams
Provide secondary/backup support for identity and access management (IDAM) and privileged access management (PAM)




Share technical expertise and mentor other engineers, and contribute to architecture and governance forums
What you'll bring
6+ years' experience in security engineering, cloud/security platform engineering or infrastructure security, including handling complex, ambiguous problems independently
Hands-on experience across four or more of: SASE/network security, firewall and network security policy, email security, EDR, SIEM/security monitoring, cloud/SaaS security, vulnerability remediation
Experience with scripting, APIs or workflow automation (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Power Automate, Logic Apps)
Ability to work effectively in a regulated environment, translating policy, risk and audit requirements into practical, evidenced engineering outcomes
Excellent communication skills, confident engaging with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority
Demonstrated experience mentoring or guiding other engineers
Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent practical experience
Advantageous
Hands-on experience with platforms such as Netskope, Mimecast, CrowdStrike, or SIEM/vulnerability management tooling
Experience securing Microsoft Azure and/or AWS environments
Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, AZ-500, SC-200, GSEC, CEH or OSCP
Experience identifying practical automation or AI-enabled use cases for security engineering
