About the role
We are seeking an experiencedAI Researcherfor an opportunity working with a federal government department.
The role will focus on researching and developing AI/ML approaches, investigating emerging techniques, designing and conducting experiments, and evaluating model performance.
You will collaborate with researchers, data scientists and software engineers to develop and implement AI/ML solutions based on research findings.

Key responsibilities
Research and investigate AI/ML techniques and approaches relevant to real-world applications
Review and interpret academic research papers and emerging AI/ML techniques
Implement and experiment with algorithms and approaches from research papers
Design and conduct experiments to investigate and improve AI/ML models
Develop and fine-tune machine learning models using Python and relevant ML frameworks
Evaluate and benchmark model performance using appropriate metrics and comparative analysis
Analyse experimental results and identify opportunities for improvement
Work with large datasets, including data preparation, preprocessing and augmentation




Collaborate with software engineers to implement research findings into practical AI/ML solutions
Document research findings and contribute to technical reports and academic publications
Collaborate with researchers, data scientists and engineers throughout the research and implementation lifecycle
About you
Experience in AI/ML research, applied research or a closely related field
Solid Python programming and machine learning experience
Experience implementing or adapting approaches from academic research papers
Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and AI model architectures
Experience developing, fine-tuning and experimenting with ML models
Experience designing experiments and evaluating/benchmarking model performance
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
Experience with areas such as computer vision, deep learning, Transformers, LLMs or generative AI
Experience with libraries such as NumPy, Hugging Face and/or Ultralytics would be highly relevant
Experience analysing experimental results and applying statistical or comparative analysis
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present research findings
Experience contributing to research papers or academic publications would be advantageous
