Job Summary
Are you a detail-driven finance professional with a passion for payroll accuracy and process improvement? Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking an experienced Finance Officer to join the Corporate Services team. This is a genuine prospect to coordinate payroll and debtor functions in a supportive, community-focused local government workplace where your accuracy, discretion and initiative make a real difference to Council operations and the people Council serve.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll play a central role in ensuring Council's payroll and debtor functions run smoothly, accurately and confidentially. You'll coordinate fortnightly payroll processing, review timesheets, leave, allowances and employee changes, and apply sound judgement when interpreting award and employment conditions.
About You
Demonstrated experience in payroll processing and administration,
including timesheets, leave, allowances, reconciliations and reporting
Practical ability to interpret and apply payroll-related award provisions, employment conditions, taxation and superannuation requirements
Experience in finance administration, including debtor invoicing, receipting and reconciliations
Solid Microsoft Office/Excel skills, with a high level of accuracy, confidentiality and attention to detail
Sound communication and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines
A clear national criminal history check or ability to obtain
Desirable: payroll/accounting qualifications, local government, Synergy Soft or similar experience
