We provide social, financial, and emotional support to the 30,000 partners, children, and dependants of veterans who have lost their lives or health as a result of their service to our country.
It's what we are proud to have done for over 100 years.
With a group of dedicated volunteers, known as Legatees, Legacy Brisbane currently supports over 3,000 widow(er)s, 117 people with a disability, 195 Legacy youth and over 60 families.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Community Engagement Specialist to join Legacy Brisbane in Rockhampton.
This part‐time role, working four days per week, will help strengthen Legacy's local presence across Rockhampton and Central Queensland by building community relationships, developing partnerships, increasing awareness of Legacy's services, growing the volunteer network and identifying local fundraising and business development opportunities.
Working alongside the Rockhampton Community Service Officer, Legatees and Legacy Brisbane's Fundraising, Marketing and Communications team, you will play a key role in connecting Legacy with the people, organisations and communities that can help support veterans' families across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local government, ex‐service organisations, community groups, businesses, service providers and other regional stakeholders.
Create and implement community engagement,



stakeholder mapping and outreach plans for Rockhampton and Central Queensland.
Identify, approach and cultivate potential corporate, community, government, philanthropic and pro‐bono partners.
Develop and support local volunteer recruitment, engagement and retention initiatives, with a focus on rebuilding Legatee capacity across the region.
Coordinate community activities, information sessions, presentations, outreach events and Legacy campaigns, including Legacy Week and ANZAC Day activities.
Work with the FRMC team to identify fundraising, sponsorship, partnership and business development opportunities.
Promote awareness of Legacy's services and strengthen referral pathways for veterans' families who may benefit from support.
Maintain accurate records, follow up stakeholder opportunities and provide reporting on activity, outcomes, opportunities and risks.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience in community engagement, stakeholder relations, partnerships, fundraising, volunteer management, business development, community development or a related field.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and relationship‐building skills, including confidence presenting to community and professional audiences.




Ability to identify opportunities, build networks and convert relationships into practical outcomes.
Strong organisational, planning and follow‐through skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across a geographically dispersed region.
Sound digital literacy, including confidence using Microsoft 365, CRM or other organisational systems.
Knowledge of Rockhampton, Central Queensland, the not‐for‐profit sector, veteran support networks, aged care, community services or volunteer programs will be highly regarded.
A current driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout Central Queensland are required.
