Allygroup is seeking aFOI Lawyerwith 2 - 4 years' post-admission experienceto support the management of Freedom of Information matters and administrative law processes, including the assessment and processing of FOI requests, internal reviews, Information Commissioner reviews, complaints and investigations.
This engagement is offered for an initial3-monthterm through to January ****, with the possibility of a further3-monthextension.Canberra-basedcandidates who are available to workfull-time onsiteat the Department's office are preferred.
However, alternative working arrangements, including virtual secondments, may be considered for suitably qualified candidates.
Key responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
Process FOI requests and internal reviews in accordance with statutory requirements.
Review and assess documents for release.
Prepare schedules of documents and exemption analyses.
Draft correspondence to applicants and third parties.
Draft FOI decision letters and statements of reasons.
Liaise with departmental business areas to obtain relevant information and documents.
Provide advice regarding FOI procedures and statutory obligations.
Assist with Information Commissioner reviews, complaints and investigations.
Draft submissions and correspondence relating to external review proceedings.
Contribute to the effective management of statutory timeframes and risk.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
2-4 years' post-admission experience.
Experience in administrative law and the Freedom of Information framework.
Working knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act **** (Cth).
Experience drafting legal correspondence and statutory decisions.
Strong analytical and document review skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
