About the position

n

Based at La Trobe University's Shepparton Campus, the project will run for more than three years and will explore the important contribution Yorta Yorta people made to the Goulburn Valley fruit-picking industry.

n

Family Facilitators will play an important role in ensuring that the stories, experiences and histories of Yorta Yorta families are captured, respected and shared in a culturally secure way.

n

Each Family Facilitator will represent their own family or clan and will work approximately half a day per week. Family Facilitators must be a member of the Yorta Yorta community and supported by their family or clan to undertake the role.

About the Project

n

Malnuda Burra Yina: Gabra – Stories of Yorta Yorta Fruit Picking between 1920 to 1970 will document and explore the experiences and contributions of Yorta Yorta families involved in the Goulburn Valley fruit-picking industry between 1920 and 1970.

n

The project will work with individual families and clans to capture their unique histories, stories and experiences, including oral histories, photographs and other family records.

Skills and Experience

n

To be considered for this position, you will have:

n

- A recognised connection to the Yorta Yorta community and endorsement from your family/clan to take on this role
n
- Cultural knowledge of Yorta Yorta history and ways of doing, including protocols and family structures, with the ability to apply these in a project engagement setting
n
- Knowledge of Yorta Yorta community history, cultural expectations, and how families/clans operate, or experience applying these in community settings
n




- A commitment to handling your family's stories, photos, oral histories, and other materials with confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and respect
n
