You can help improve lives and create a positive impact in your community It’s an opportunity to enhance your skills & knowledge & gain new experiences You’ll be helping Red Cross to support vulnerable people across Australia The program The Restoring Family Links (RFL) Service in Australia is part of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Global Family Links Network, which aims to help people find family and re-establish contact between separated family members and clarify the fate of the missing. RFL is a core service that operates in 191 countries and relies on volunteers around the world for service delivery. The opportunity The RFL Community Engagement & Accountability (CEA) student placement supports the RFL team to undertake diaspora community outreach to seek feedback on community needs regarding historic or current humanitarian emergencies that have resulted in family separation and loss of contact with loved ones overseas. Through this consultation process, the key purpose of the role is to assess the level of community awareness and experience using RFL services – either in Australia or overseas – so that this feedback can directly inform how the RFL team undertakes service promotion and delivery across Australia to better meet community needs. The RFL CEA role is also required to respond to RFL enquiries and referrals received during community outreach and engagement. This may include providing Psychological First Aid (PFA)



and/or basic Psycho-Social Support (PSS) to community members experiencing distress as a result of family separation or loss of contact. For this role you will need good conversational skills and the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of people, including those with different lived experiences, abilities, and cultures. You will be comfortable using computers and be able to learn the service’s web-based call management system. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network. The impact As a volunteer, you will be providing humanitarian & practical support to persons who have lost contact with family overseas due to war, conflict and migration to reduce their vulnerability. Through this engagement, you will learn about the needs of affected communities and be assisted to share/capture this in culturally appropriate ways with our wider RFL team so that we can ensure that Australian Red Cross is delivering an RFL service that is continuously adapting to meet changing community needs. Application requirements For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross. The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.
