The Regional Australia Institute is looking for an experienced and passionate Communications & Advocacy Manager to help shape public debate, influence decision-makers and elevate the stories, insights and opportunities emerging from regional communities across Australia.

As Australia's leading independent voice on regional issues, RAI works with government, industry and communities to drive evidence-based solutions that strengthen regional Australia. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine strategic communications, media relations, advocacy and stakeholder engagement to create meaningful national impact.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager - Regional Impact and Activation, you will lead RAI's communications and advocacy function, building awareness, influence and engagement across government, media, industry and community audiences.
You'll be responsible for:
• Developing and delivering RAI's communications, media and advocacy strategy.
• Building relationships with journalists, editors and key stakeholders to raise RAI's profile nationally.
• Translating complex research and policy insights into compelling stories and accessible content.
• Supporting the CEO through speeches, presentations, briefing materials, opinion pieces and thought leadership content.
• Leading communications for major reports, campaigns, partnerships and events, including the Regions Rising series.




• Working closely with the digital marketing team to maximise audience reach and engagement.

About You
You are a strategic communicator who enjoys influencing conversations and building trusted relationships.
You will ideally have:
• Experience in communications, public affairs, advocacy, media relations or stakeholder engagement.
• Outstanding writing, editing and storytelling skills.
• Strong media networks and experience securing earned media opportunities.
• An ability to distil complex information into engaging content for a wide range of audiences.
• Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• An interest in regional Australia, public policy, economic development or community impact.
