The Opportunity

Help young people feel heard, valued and connected.

As a Casual Youth Worker, you will help create those opportunities every day. Working within Council's Youth Services team, you will support young people aged 12 to 24 across the Wollongong Local Government Area through programs, activities, drop-in services, information, support and referrals.

You will join a passionate team that works alongside young people to create safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where they can participate, build confidence and have a voice in their community. The role works closely with young people, schools, community groups, government and non-government organisations, youth service providers and other Council teams.

We are looking for a mix of experienced and emerging youth workers who bring enthusiasm, empathy, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to supporting young people.

As part of our casual pool, you may be called upon to work across a variety of Youth Services programs and locations based on operational needs. Flexibility is important, as shifts may include days, evenings and weekends, sometimes at short notice.

Salary from $44.32 per hour plus superannuation and any applicable casual loading (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience, and qualifications)

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.

How you'll make a difference





You will develop and deliver programs and activities for young people aged 12 to 24 that encourage participation, connection and positive outcomes for young people across the Wollongong community.

You will:

- Build positive relationships with young people and creating safe, welcoming and inclusive environments.
- Provide information, support, advocacy and referrals that help young people access the services they need.
- Respond appropriately to challenging situations and supporting the resolution of issues as they arise.
- Contribute to community development initiatives that increase access to Youth Services.
- Supporting a culture that prioritises child safety, wellbeing and workplace safety.

Success in the role comes from building trusted relationships, supporting young people to access opportunities and services, and contributing to programs that help young people feel connected, included and empowered.

About you

You care about young people and believe they deserve to be heard, respected and supported. You build rapport easily, communicate with confidence and know how to create positive and inclusive environments where people feel comfortable being themselves.

You will bring:

- Qualifications in youth work, community services, social sciences, behavioural sciences or a related discipline, and/or relevant experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Sound judgement and problem solving skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A commitment to child safety and wellbeing
- A current NSW Working With Children Check or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement.
