In this position you will support establishing an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) service within Cairns Hospital for patients with respiratory and/or cardiac failure that may require it.
About us:
The Cairns Intensive Care Unit has a funded capacity of 10 ICU1 beds and 6 ICU2 beds. The function of the ICU is to provide intensive therapy to critically ill paediatric and adult patients with single or multi organ failure. As a level 6 ICU, Cairns ICU provides care for most clinical conditions. Specialties such as cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and advance paediatric intensive care may necessitate the transfer of patients to a tertiary centre.

About your opportunity:
In this position you will…
- As this is a new service for the health service this role will carry a large element of project management and clinical expertise.
- Develop strategic links with Queensland Health Adult ECMO Retrieval Services (QAERS).
- Ensure the service is safely and efficiently established prior to clinical commencement.
- Provide nursing leadership that drives system and quality improvements and change management.
