About the role

Riot is seeking a Critical Operations Engineer to join our team in Rockdale, Texas. In this hands-on role, you will help ensure the reliability, efficiency, and uptime of our mission-critical infrastructure by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems. From HVAC and chilled water systems to UPS equipment, generators, and critical power distribution, you will play a key role in supporting a fast-paced, mission-critical workplace. This position may require flexibility to work day, swing, or night shifts based on operational needs.

What you'll do

n

n
- Perform hands-on operations and maintenance across electrical or mechanical systems to ensure uptime, efficiency, and safety.
n
- Apply mechanical and electrical theory to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot facility systems, demonstrating working knowledge of integrated electrical, mechanical, and controls environments.
n
- Complete work orders accurately and on time within the site’s asset management system.
n
- Utilize control room systems to monitor and diagnose system alerts, respond to events, and inspect equipment to identify risks, faults, and inefficiencies.
n
- Respond independently to facility events using established procedures and escalate when necessary.
n
- Troubleshoot, evaluate, and recommend system improvements or upgrades to enhance operational efficiency and maintenance programs.
n
- Author procedures and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities and contribute to maintenance planning.
n
- Support vendor and contractor management by coordinating onsite maintenance activities, including scheduling, oversight, and ensuring adherence to site standards and procedures.

What you'll bring

Tech I

n

n
- 0–2+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical,



or technical maintenance field ( internship/trade school acceptable )
n
- Basic understanding of safety practices and willingness to learn technical systems and processes
n
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, or life safety systems
n
- Familiarity with maintenance environments or technical tools
n
- Interest in pursuing technical certifications or trade development
n

n

Tech II

n

n
- 3–6+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or a related technical field
n
- Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical theory and its practical application
n
- Experience performing maintenance and troubleshooting on technical systems
n
- Experience in critical environments ( data centers, healthcare, manufacturing, power, etc. )
n
- Knowledge of asset management or maintenance tracking systems
n
- Experience interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
n
- Knowledge of integrated building systems and controls
n
- Trade certification or state licensure ( Electrical or HVAC )
n
- Data Center experience preferred
n

Tech III

n

n
- 6+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or related technical field
n
- Strong expertise in advanced troubleshooting, system integration, and independent decision-making
n
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical, mechanical, and control systems integration
n
- Experience managing vendors, projects, and maintenance programs, including oversight of project execution and vendor coordination.
n




- Experience leveraging AI tools for operational efficiency and predictive maintenance
n
- Demonstrated application of responsible AI practices and continuous AI skill development
n
- Professional affiliations (7x24 Exchange, IFMA, etc.)
n
- Advanced certifications or licensures in electrical, mechanical, or controls disciplines
n
- Data Center experience preferred
n

Physical requirements and work environment

n

- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
n
- Ability to lift and move equipment as needed (25lbs)
n
- Ability to work onsite in a data center environment (heat, noise, etc.)
n
- Exposure to high noise levels and varying temperatures
n
