MAC Engineering NQ is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Working Supervisor / Mechanical Fitter to join our team.

n

We're looking for someone who can lead from the front — someone who is confident supervising a team, coordinating jobs and making decisions, but who is equally happy to get on the tools and get their hands dirty.

n

This isn't your standard mechanical fitting role.

n

You'll be working on complex industrial machinery, port equipment, crane systems and heavy equipment, diagnosing faults, solving technical problems and working directly with OEMs, manufacturers and technical support teams to get equipment back up and running.

n

About the Role

n

As a Working Supervisor, you'll be responsible for both leading the team and getting the work done.

n

Your role will include:

n

n
- Diagnosing, troubleshooting, servicing and repairing industrial port machinery, crane systems and heavy equipment.
n
- Working on complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control systems.
n
- Commissioning, servicing and maintaining heavy machinery and lifting equipment.
n
- Carrying out preventative maintenance and condition assessments.
n
- Using specialised diagnostic software, technical manuals and manufacturer information to identify and resolve faults.
n
- Working with OEMs, manufacturers and technical support teams to diagnose complex or unusual faults and develop practical solutions.
n
- Interpreting technical documentation, drawings, schematics and manufacturer specifications.
n
- Responding to breakdowns and providing fast, accurate and technically sound solutions.
n




- Looking beyond the immediate repair to identify recurring faults and longer‐term solutions.
n
- Supervising and coordinating the day‐to‐day work of the team.
n
- Planning jobs, prioritising workloads and delegating tasks.
n
- Working alongside the team on the tools while managing the supervisory and administrative side of the role.
n
- Supporting and mentoring team members and leading by example.
n
- Communicating with management, customers, OEMs and technical support teams.
n
- Taking ownership of jobs and being confident making decisions when required.
n
- Working both on‐site and in our workshop, with occasional travel along the east coast.
n

What We're Looking For

n

We're looking for someone with the technical ability, leadership experience and attitude to step into a hands‐on supervisory position.

n

You'll need:

n

n
- Formal trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner / Mechanical Fitter.
n
- Current Basic Rigging (RB) High Risk Work Licence.
n
- Proven experience in a supervisory, leading hand or senior trades role.
n
- Strong experience with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control systems.
n
- Excellent fault‐finding and troubleshooting skills.
n
- The ability to work through complex technical problems logically and independently.
n
- Experience working with OEMs, manufacturers and technical support teams.
n
- The ability to read and understand technical manuals, drawings, schematics and equipment specifications.
n
- A genuine interest in understanding why equipment has failed, rather than simply replacing parts.
n
- Strong leadership, communication and people skills.
n
- The ability to delegate, manage workloads and keep jobs moving.
n
- A solid commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
n




- Good customer service skills.
n
- A willingness to work weekends when required.
n
- A hands‐on approach — this is not a "sit in the office" supervisor role.
n
- Basic computer and administration skills.
n
- Confidence using ServiceM8 for job management and updates.
n
- Competency with Microsoft Outlook, email and general computer systems.
n
- Current or ability to obtain Work at Heights, Confined Space, EWP, C‐Class Driver's Licence and Forklift licences.
n
- Ability to obtain an MISC licence.
n
