Founded in 1979, Carrie's Place Domestic Violence and Homelessness Service is a committed team of professionals dedicated to raising awareness of domestic violence within the community. As a not-for-profit organisation, we offer a wide range of culturally sensitive services to individuals affected by domestic violence and homelessness.

Our mission is to empower families in the Maitland and Lower Hunter regions by helping them find safe, stable housing and live free from abuse. We work closely with local communities to address domestic violence and homelessness, providing holistic support that fosters capacity-building, inclusion, and resilience.

About the Role:

n

Our Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) team delivers services across the Maitland, Cessnock and Dungog Local Government areas for people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. As the SHS Children and Young Persons Specialist Worker, you will provide direct trauma informed,



family centred and culturally appropriate services to children and young people between 0-17 years of age.

Additionally, you will support children and young people and their families to access mainstream and specialist services that will promote improved housing, safety and well-being outcomes.

- Immediate crisis intervention support for children and young people as they enter crisis accommodation;
n
- Assessing children and young people's needs to develop case plans for case management;
n
- Working with clients to engage with other services, including those that may provide long-term and step-down support after a family leaves crisis accommodation;
n
- Building new, and strengthening existing, networks between Carrie's Place and services that support children, young people and their families, and ensure resources, connections and information is shared across the organisation;
n
- Building rapport and establishing effective and appropriate relationships that support service delivery and assist children, young people and women to feel welcome and safe;
n
- Undertaking person-centred care, strength-based case management for housing goals, wellbeing and family participation and family support; and
n
- Making child protection notifications as required by legislation and Carrie's Place policy.

Essential Criteria:

n

n
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience providing high-quality, holistic and child centred case management.
n
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology and / or related behavioural sciences.
n
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of domestic violence within families and relationships.
n
- Solid knowledge of the impacts of domestic violence on children and young people's development.
n
- Demonstrated experience or additional qualifications in implementing evidence-based approaches and / or programs to meet the needs of children, young people and their families.
n
- Experience working with children and young people with emotional, behavioural or mental health challenges, including responding to crisis.
n
- Experience working with vulnerable women and children and maintaining strong skills in the assessment of risks and safety.
n
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support.
n
- Experience in providing individual and parent / child counselling with vulnerable people.
n
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, and computer literacy.
n
- Current NSW Driver's Licence.
n
- National Police Check, or willing to obtain.
n
- Working With Children Check, or willing to obtain.
n
