The Role

As a Team Leader at Smith&Co; Group, you'll be responsible for work as a painter and leading a team of painters on commercial construction sites.

You'll be expected to work hands-on every day,



completing painting tasks alongside the team while making sure the work is organised, productive and completed to Smith&Co; Group's quality standards.

You'll lead by example — working alongside the team, helping when required, maintaining a high standard of workmanship and making sure the team stays on track.

You​ll be responsible for:

- Leading and coordinating painters on site.
- Organising the team's daily work and priorities.
- Ensuring painters understand their tasks, areas and required finishes.
- Working from project scopes, drawings, colour schedules and specifications.
- Maintaining high-quality painting finishes across the project.
- Checking completed work and identifying defects or areas requiring attention.
- Supporting and training less experienced painters.
- Leading by example and maintaining a strong work ethic.
- Ensuring the team works efficiently and stays on schedule.
- Communicating daily progress and issues to the supervisor and management.
- Identifying problems early and helping find practical solutions.

Paint IQ gives our team access to the information they need to understand what's coming next, plan their work, communicate with the team and respond quickly when issues arise.

As a Team Leader, you'll play an important role in making sure the team understands what needs to be done and that information from the site is communicated back to the supervisor and management team.

Experience & Requirements

- 3–5+ years of proven commercial painting experience.
- Previous experience leading or supervising a painting team highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of commercial painting processes.
- Ability to deliver high-quality finishes consistently.
- Ability to read and understand project scopes, drawings and colour schedules.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with builders, supervisors and other trades.
- Ability to train and support other painters.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety.
- Construction White Card – mandatory.
- Australian work rights.
- Current driver's licence.
- Spray painting experience highly regarded.
- Trade qualification or significant proven industry experience.
