Job TitleTearoom AssistantJob DescriptionAn exciting opportunity is available for a Tearoom Assistant to join the Engagement & Communications Department at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the PositionThe Tearoom Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and welcoming tearoom and kitchen environment for staff and visitors. The role supports day-to-day catering and hospitality operations by receiving and storing catering deliveries, managing tea, coffee and biscuit supplies, maintaining kitchen equipment and amenities, and ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and presentation across staff kitchen and tearoom facilities.

The Tearoom Assistant plays an important role in providing a positive workplace experience through the efficient management of refreshment services and adherence to food safety and hygiene standards.

Due to the operational needs of the role, the Tearoom assistant is required to be on site.

n

Key responsibilitiesReceive, unpack and appropriately store catering and hospitality-related deliveries and supplies.

n

Maintain cleanliness and presentation of staff kitchens, tearoom, microwaves, benchtops, appliances and common areas.

n

Conduct regular stocktake of catering and kitchen consumables and advise on re-order requirements.

n

Ensure food handling, storage and preparation practices comply with relevant food safety standards.

n

Dispose of waste and recycling in accordance with organisational procedures.

n

Support the set-up and pack-down of catering and hospitality services for meetings and events on occasion.

n

Maintain a safe,



clean and organised work environment and report any equipment faults or safety concerns.

n

Build positive working relationships with staff, visitors, suppliers and catering providers.

n

Working collaboratively with casual staff that will also be working in the tearoom on other days, and supporting other eventsSelection CriteriaEssential Knowledge and Skills: Current Food Handling Certificate (or ability to obtain).Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification.

Current First Aid Certificate.

n

Experience supporting workplace hospitality or corporate catering environments.

n

Knowledge of food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.

n

Demonstrated experience in hospitality, catering, kitchen support or a similar service-based role.

n

Personal Qualities: Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and hygiene standards.

n

Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

n

Reliable, professional and customer-service focused approach.

n

Terms of AppointmentThis position is an ongoing role in a part time capacity (0.6 FTE). Salary is Skilled Services Employee Level 3 ($67,585 - $74,621) pro rata. Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
