Company Accountant – Food Manufacturing (Bakery)
Land of Plenty Manufacturing Pty Ltd (trading as Choices Food Group) runs an SQF-certified commercial bakery in Hornsby, producing gluten-free cakes, slices, muffins, loaves and savoury lines for major retailers, food service distributors and airline caterers across Australia. We are part of the Land of Plenty Food Group.
We are looking for a Company Accountant to own the accounts function for the manufacturing entity. This is a hands-on, sole-charge role sitting inside a bakery, not a head-office finance team. You will run day-to-day accounts payable and receivable for a food manufacturer and produce the management accounting that tells the business what it costs to make and move every product.
What you will do
Accounts division – sole charge for Land of Plenty Manufacturing
Run accounts payable end to end: raw material, packaging, freight and utility supplier bills, three-way matching of purchase orders, receiving slips and invoices in the bakery ERP (FlexiBake), weekly supplier payment runs and priority lists for CEO approval
Run accounts receivable: invoicing from production despatch, retailer and distributor claims, credits and rebates (Woolworths, Harris Farm, food service distributors, export customers), remittances, collections and credit holds
Bank and GST reconciliations in Xero, including BAS preparation within a GST group and intercompany transactions with related group entities
Payroll reporting support for a rostered production workforce (Deputy timesheets to Xero), superannuation, workers compensation wage declarations and leave accruals
Site administration finance: leases, insurances, security and equipment contracts, fixed asset register for bakery plant
Management accounting for a bakery
Maintain recipe and bill-of-materials costings in FlexiBake: raw material price movements, yield and waste allowances, pack sizes and labour rates
Monthly finished goods and raw material stocktake reconciliation (system vs physical count), variance investigation and write-off journals
Weekly COGS and gross margin reporting by SKU, customer and channel, including freight-to-customer cost audits
Production labour analysis: wage cost per batch, overtime and packing labour vs plan
Monthly management accounts for the manufacturing entity, consolidation inputs for group, and support for budgeting, cashflow forecasting and capex requests
Costing and pricing support for new product development and customer tenders
Finance evidence for SQF food safety audits, supplier approvals and retailer compliance portals
Working closely with the Group General Manager, Group Financial Manager and the external accountant
What we are looking for
Minimum 5 years' accounting experience in a food manufacturing, bakery or FMCG production workplace, covering both AP/AR and management accounting
Demonstrated experience with recipe or bill-of-materials costing, stocktake reconciliation and COGS reporting in a manufacturing ERP (FlexiBake, Unleashed, MYOB Advanced, NetSuite or similar)
Working knowledge of Xero, including BAS and GST group reporting
Experience handling retailer and distributor claims, rebates and credits (supermarket and food service accounts)
Comfortable as the only accountant on a production site, working directly with bakers, production and despatch staff
Bachelor degree in Accounting (or Business majoring in Accounting)
Accurate, organised, and able to run to weekly payment and reporting deadlines without supervision
Full-time availability, on site at Hornsby
