Electrical Engineering Technician Kogan People Solutions are working with a food manufacturing and distribution company specialising in authentic South Asian and international food products as they search to recruit a skilled experienced Electrical Engineering Technician. The company serves as both a production plant and a wholesale distributor for supermarket chains, Indian grocery stores, and food service providers across Australia. This role is responsible for the maintenance, testing, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement of high-voltage industrial electrical systems, automated production lines, motor controls, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) environments.

1. Plant Maintenance & Electrical Support

n

n
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on high-power electric motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), heating elements, and industrial boilers across ghee, flour, and spice production lines.
n
- Inspect, test, and repair electrical panels, distribution boards, transformers, relays, switches, and industrial wiring throughout the processing and warehousing facility.
n
- Monitor electrical loads and thermal performance of control cabinets to prevent system overloads or electrical failures.
n

2. Automation, PLCs & Control Systems

n

n
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals to diagnose automation faults.
n
- Troubleshoot PLC inputs/outputs, SCADA interfaces, sensor networks (photoelectric, proximity, temperature, pressure), and automated packaging/weighing machinery.
n
- Calibrate electronic instrumentation,



temperature controllers, load cells, and flow meters to maintain consistent batch quality and processing accuracy.
n

3. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

n

n
- Ensure all electrical works and machinery modifications comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.
n
- Conduct regular test-and-tag programs, thermal imaging inspections, and functional safety checks on emergency stops and interlocks.
n
- Adhere strictly to food safety and hygienic maintenance practices (HACCP) when performing work in food processing zones.
n

4. Breakdown Response & Operational Efficiency

n

n
- Provide rapid response to machine breakdowns and electrical faults during production shifts to minimise plant downtime.
n
- Work closely with mechanical fitters, machine operators, and production managers to systematically identify root causes of operational disruptions.
n
- Support capital project installations, assisting with the wiring, testing, commissioning, and optimization of newly acquired machinery.
n

Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:

n

n
- Qualification: Diploma in a highly relevant discipline, or agreed substitute
n
- Demonstrated experience in PLC diagnostics and motor control systems.
n
- Strong working knowledge of industrial sensors, VFDs, pneumatic controls, and relay logic.
n
- Proficiency in reading complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
n
- At least three years of highly relevant skilled experience in similar industrial environments (i.e. HACCP / GMP regulated clean manufacturing conditions).
