About the Role

As a Designer at Advanced Shade Systems, you will be responsible for developing practical, innovative and visually appealing shade structure designs. You will work closely with our estimating, engineering, project management and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are technically sound, cost-effective and suitable for fabrication and installation.

This is a hands‑on role that combines design, CAD drafting, site assessment, problem-solving, manufacturing knowledge and project collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Documentation

- Develop innovative, functional and aesthetically pleasing shade structure designs.

- Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using industry-standard CAD software.

- Prepare fabrication and construction drawings to a high standard of accuracy and detail.

- Develop design solutions that consider structural requirements, materials,



manufacturing methods and installation constraints.

CAD & 3D Modelling

- Create and modify detailed designs using AutoCAD and SketchUp.

- Develop 3D models to communicate design concepts and assist with project development.

- Maintain accurate drawings and documentation throughout the design process.

- Utilise additional CAD and visualisation software where appropriate.

Engineering & Project Collaboration

- Work closely with engineers to develop designs that meet structural and project requirements.

- Collaborate with project managers, estimators and manufacturing staff to ensure designs are practical and achievable.

- Incorporate engineering recommendations and project-specific requirements into design documentation.

- Identify potential design or construction issues and develop practical solutions.

Manufacturing & Construction

- Develop a robust understanding of our manufacturing processes, materials and fabrication techniques.

- Ensure designs can be efficiently manufactured, transported and installed.

- Consider material selection, fabrication methods, connections, tolerances and installation requirements when developing designs.

- Liaise with our manufacturing and installation teams to resolve design issues as they arise.

Site Assessments

- Attend project sites to undertake measurements, inspections and assessments.

- Identify site constraints and conditions that may affect the design or installation.

- Accurately document site information and incorporate findings into design solutions.

Client Interaction

- Communicate professionally with clients, architects, builders and other project stakeholders.

- Assist with presenting design concepts and proposed solutions.





- Understand client requirements and translate them into practical design outcomes.

- Respond to design changes and project requirements throughout the process.

Estimating

- Develop an understanding of our estimating and costing procedures.

- Work with the estimating team to ensure designs accurately reflect project requirements.

- Consider material quantities, manufacturing requirements and construction methods when developing designs.

- Assist in providing accurate information for project pricing.

Required Software Proficiency

- AutoCAD

- SketchUp

- Experience with additional design or CAD software will be highly regarded, including:

- SolidWorks

- Adobe Creative Suite

- Lumion

- Other relevant 3D modelling or visualisation software

About You

We are looking for someone who combines strong design ability with practical problem-solving skills.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Engineering Design or a related discipline.

- Demonstrated experience in a design or drafting role, preferably within construction, manufacturing, architecture, engineering or a related industry.

- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp.

- A sound understanding of design development, documentation and project delivery.

- An understanding of manufacturing, fabrication and construction processes.

- Strong attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- The ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- A willingness to attend project sites and work collaboratively with engineers, manufacturers and installers.

Experience with shade structures, tensile structures, steel fabrication, construction or outdoor structures will be highly regarded, but is not essential.

Work Hours

Monday to Thursday: 6:30am – 3:00pm
Friday: 6:30am – 12:30pm

This is a 38-hour working week, providing an early finish on Friday.
