Restaurant Supervisor / Front of House Team Leader — Part‑Time

Hecho En Mexico Altona is looking for an experienced, hands‑on Front of House Team Leader / Supervisor to lead our team and deliver outstanding dining experiences.

This role suits someone who thrives in a busy restaurant, communicates confidently and leads by example. You will be actively involved on the floor—welcoming guests, taking orders, supporting the team and keeping service running smoothly.

Previous restaurant and team leadership experience is essential. Retail experience and Spanish language skills will be an advantage, but are not essential.

Your responsibilities

Team leadership and supervision

- Lead front of house operations during your shifts, maintaining friendly, efficient and professional service.

- Work alongside the team, taking orders, serving food and drinks, clearing tables and helping wherever needed.

- Allocate sections and duties based on bookings, service demand and team experience.

- Conduct pre-service briefings covering specials, menu availability, dietary requirements and service priorities.

- Provide clear direction, practical coaching and constructive feedback.

- Foster a positive, respectful workplace with strong teamwork and accountability.

- Assist management with shift coverage and communicate staffing concerns promptly.

Customer service and guest experience

- Welcome guests warmly and manage reservations, walk‑ins, seating and waitlists.

- Monitor the dining room, anticipate guests’ needs and ensure timely, attentive service.

- Handle customer enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally, escalating matters when necessary.

- Build relationships with regular customers and create a welcoming atmosphere.

- Ensure allergies and dietary requirements are accurately communicated to the kitchen and handled according to restaurant procedures.

- Develop strong menu knowledge and guide the team in recommending suitable food and drinks.

- Support efficient table turnover while ensuring guests feel comfortable and well looked after.

Restaurant operations

- Coordinate with the kitchen and bar to manage order flow, food timing and service priorities.

- Oversee opening and closing procedures, including cleaning, restocking and restaurant presentation.

- Ensure orders, payments, discounts and refunds are processed accurately through the POS system.

- Complete cash handling, till reconciliation and shift reporting as required.

- Monitor front of house supplies and report stock shortages, maintenance issues and equipment faults.

- Maintain food safety, hygiene, responsible service of alcohol and workplace safety standards.

- Provide clear shift handovers and keep management informed of operational issues and customer feedback.

Training and development

- Assist with onboarding and practical training for new team members.

- Train staff in service standards, menu knowledge, POS use and restaurant procedures.

- Identify areas for improvement and help team members build their skills and confidence.

- Contribute ideas to improve customer service, efficiency and team performance.

What we’re looking for

- Proven front of house experience in a busy restaurant, including experience as a Team Leader, Supervisor or in a similar leadership position.

- A hands‑on approach and willingness to actively support the team throughout service.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to give explicit direction.

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

- A genuine passion for hospitality and delivering excellent customer experiences.

- Experience with POS systems, payments and reservation management.

- Reliability, punctuality and a strong sense of responsibility.

- A current Victorian RSA certificate, or willingness to obtain one before starting.

- Previous retail experience is an advantage, particularly in customer service, sales or team leadership.

- Spanish‑speaking ability is an advantage, but is not essential.

Working days and availability

- Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are mandatory working days, including evening shifts as rostered.

- Any additional working days and your regular part‑time hours will be agreed with management.

- November to February is our busiest trading period, and availability throughout this period is essential. Planned holidays or extended leave during these months must be discussed and approved by management in advance. Please disclose any existing holiday commitments when applying. This does not affect statutory leave entitlements.

Salary and employee benefits

- $60,000–$70,000 annual full‑time equivalent base salary, depending on experience, plus superannuation.

- As this is a part‑time position, your actual annual salary will be calculated pro rata based on your agreed ordinary weekly hours. The advertised range is the full‑time equivalent, not the actual part‑time salary.

- Paid annual leave and personal/carer’s leave in line with part‑time entitlements.

- A complimentary staff meal and soft drink per shift.

- Employee recognition and performance incentive opportunities.

- Practical training and opportunities to develop your leadership skills.

- The opportunity to work closely with management and contribute to the restaurant’s success.
