As a Portfolio Manager - Private Equity, you’ll make a significant contribution to the strategy and management of our private equity portfolio across Australia and international markets.

Working within our Growth Assets team, you’ll contribute to portfolio construction, investment research and selection, and the ongoing management of fund and co-investment assets. You’ll bring together detailed analysis, sound commercial judgement and strong market relationships to help us identify opportunities and manage investment risk.

You’ll work closely with senior investment leaders and internal stakeholders while developing trusted relationships with external investment partners. You’ll also provide clear recommendations and performance updates to senior decisionmakers, supporting investment outcomes that are in the best financial interests of our members.

This is a permanent opportunity and is based in Sydney or Brisbane.

Responsibilities

Day to day, you'll:

- Help shape and execute the strategy for the private equity investment portfolio.
- Lead investment research, analysis, due diligence, insights and reporting.
- Assess fund and co-investment opportunities across Australian and international markets.
- Provide explicit investment recommendations and portfolio performance updates to senior stakeholders and governance forums.




- Build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and influence outcomes aligned with members’ best financial interests.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and maintain productive relationships with external investment partners.
- Monitor industry developments, market trends, emerging risks and investment opportunities.
- Support the delivery of governance, risk and compliance obligations to a high standard.
- Review commercial and legal documentation relating to investment opportunities.
- Contribute to portfolio valuation, construction and risk-reward analysis.
- Represent Australian Retirement Trust at relevant industry events.
- Mentor and support investment professionals across the team.
- Lead or contribute to strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:

- You hold relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, investments, commerce, economics or a related discipline.
- Your experience includes 10+ years managing investments within a private equity or a closely related investment domain.
- You’ll bring a strong understanding of investment markets, legislation, regulation and emerging industry issues.




- You’re highly capable in investment research, analysis and the assessment of risk and return.
- You have a proven track record of managing complex or high-value investments.
- Your stakeholder management and negotiation skills enable you to influence senior internal and external partners.
- You’ll communicate complex investment matters clearly through high-quality written advice and presentations.
- You’re comfortable presenting recommendations and portfolio updates to senior management, executives and governance forums.
- You have commercial experience reviewing investment agreements and legal documentation.
- Your knowledge includes financial modelling and investment valuation principles and practices.
- You work collaboratively and contribute positively to a high-performing team.
- Your experience may include exposure to international investment markets.
