Job Summary:

Due to an internal promotion, we're looking to add another Controls Engineer to our Australian team. As part of a cross-functional group, you'll provide technical support across our data centres, helping maintain, troubleshoot, and improve BMS, PLC, and other critical facility systems.

Working closely with Site Operations, Facility Engineering, Projects, Vendors, and regional teams, you'll support everything from design reviews and commissioning through to day-to-day operations, maintenance, and system optimisation.

The role involves supporting critical infrastructure including cooling systems, electrical systems, generators, UPSs, environmental monitoring, and alarm management platforms. You'll investigate issues, troubleshoot control systems, identify root causes, and help deliver reliable solutions in live operational environments.

You'll also contribute to standards, procedures, audits, system upgrades, integrations, and commissioning activities while sharing your knowledge and experience with the wider facilities team.

We're looking for someone with a strong background in controls and/or BMS who can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience with platforms such as Honeywell, Schneider, JCI, Siemens, Delta Controls, Niagara, AVEVA, Allen-Bradley, or similar systems will be highly regarded.

Key responsibilities:

System Operation and Work Practices

- Strong understanding of critical facility systems, including chillers, CRAHs, cooling towers, UPSs, generators,



switchboards, fuel systems, and associated monitoring platforms.

- Support live operational environments through maintenance, incident response, troubleshooting, commissioning, and continuous improvement activities.

- Analyse alarms, trends, control sequences, and system performance to identify opportunities for optimisation, reliability improvements, and risk reduction.

- Review and support project design documentation, Sequences of Operation (SOO), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), scopes of work, and commissioning documentation to ensure alignment with operational requirements and standards.

- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and commissioning activities.

Problem Solving and Internal/External Engagement

- Lead root cause investigations relating to operational incidents, equipment failures, and control system issues.

- Act as an escalation point for complex BMS, PLC, SCADA, integration, and controls-related matters across the Australian portfolio.

- Work closely with Site Operations teams to improve alarm quality, system visibility, asset data integrity, and overall reliability.

- Provide technical guidance and support during commissioning, upgrades, equipment replacements, expansions, and retrofit projects.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

- Provide subject matter expertise, coaching, and technical mentoring to Facility Engineers, Operations teams, and project stakeholders on BMS operation, alarm management, fault finding, and controls best practices.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

- 5+ years' experience in Building Management Systems (BMS), facility controls, DDC, PLC systems, industrial automation, or critical environment operations.





- Experience supporting mission-critical environments such as data centres, healthcare, utilities, mining, manufacturing, or industrial facilities.

- Solid understanding of HVAC controls, electrical monitoring systems, chilled water systems, and critical facility operations.

- Experience with industry protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, OPC, MQTT, and EtherNet/IP.

- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting integrated control systems in live operational environments.

- Understanding of commissioning processes, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), Functional Performance Testing (FPT), change management, and operational risk management.

- Experience with SCADA, historian, and data integration platforms such as Kepware, TOP Server, AVEVA, PI System, Matrikon, or equivalent.

- Ability to interpret control drawings, electrical schematics, network architectures, and Sequence of Operation documentation.

- Data centre or industrial automation experience is highly regarded.
