Our client is a family business and one of Australia's largest privately owned grass-fed Angus producers, operating across Victoria and Tasmania.

You'll be based at Woolnorth, the 4,000ha beef block near Smithton. Intensive grazing country divided into small paddocks and worked on a quad bike, much of it humped and hollowed with drains.

The Angus herd is over 2,000 head, with around 700 head of dairy stock from the neighbouring dairies also grazed on the block. The company is investing in the pasture, fencing, water and yards.

The Role

Working closely with the Farm Manager, you'll run the grazing, stock moves, yard work and repairs while the manager sets the program. Contractors and the neighbouring dairy team help in busy periods.

Grazing management is the key to this role. Mobs move every couple of days, and each shift decides how much feed each animal gets and how it gains. You'll read the covers and flag early when a rotation needs slowing or a mob splitting. It suits someone who enjoys growing grass as much as working cattle.

The standard here is simple: a broken trough gets fixed properly. As the team grows, junior hands will report to you.

Key Responsibilities

- Run the grazing rotation. Shift mobs to the plan set with the Farm Manager, working to residuals, graze and rest periods, and read and record pasture covers and stock numbers.
- Allocate feed to grow beef. Match feed on offer to each mob's needs, track weight gains against target, and contribute to stocking-rate, mob-split and drafting decisions.
- Run the stock work.



Monthly weighing and yard work, with calf marking, weaning and joining done on time each season.
- Handle cattle calmly. Low-stress handling as the norm, treating sick and injured stock and removing dead stock.
- Keep water, fences and buildings working. Troughs, pumps, water lines, fences and electric fence power, plus sheds, yards and houses.
- Help deliver the development program. Pasture renovation, fencing upgrades, drainage and the new cattle yards, keeping contractors moving on site.
- Keep records current. Stock movements in Agriwebb, chemical spraying and fuel logs, working to LPA, EU and program standards.

What You Bring

Senior Station Hands ready for their first management role are encouraged to apply, provided the grazing and beef cattle experience is there.

Essential:

- 5+ years of hands-on beef cattle work, moving and handling large mobs.
- Rotational or intensive grazing experience, including reading covers and allocating feed per head to drive daily gain.
- Low-stress, confident stock handling.
- Confident on a quad in wet, drained country.
- Practical fencing, water and trough repair skills.




- Willing to live in the company house in Smithton and take a share of the weekend roster.
- A current Driver's Licence.
- Australian or Recent Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.

Advantageous:

- Your own working dogs.
- Agriwebb experience.
- Mechanically minded, with excavator experience for drainage work.
- Fertiliser and pasture nutrition knowledge.
- Experience leading or directing junior hands.
- Cert IV in Agriculture or a tertiary qualification in agriculture or farm management.
- Chemical handling accreditation, forklift or heavy vehicle licence.

What You'll Gain

- Package: $80k - $85k (neg) + Super + house + fuel + bonus. Circa $130k+ total package.
- Housing: Three-bedroom house in Smithton, about 30 minutes from the block.
- Fuel: Two tanks a month.
- Development: Build your management skills in one of Australia's largest privately owned Angus operations.
- Hours: Monday to Friday, roughly 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. Weekend roster: every second weekend, two to four hours on Saturday and Sunday for stock shifts and essentials. Weekend time is balanced with earlier finishes when the program allows.
