MAYDAY Recruitment is partnering with a respected and long-standing organisation within the funeral services sector to recruit a Funeral DirectorAssistant. This is a meaningful, hands-on role suited to someone who is compassionate, reliable, and comfortable working in a sensitive environment supporting families during important moments in their lives.

About the Role

n

Working as part of a close-knit team, you will support the delivery of qualified funeral services across a range of settings. The role is varied and practical, requiring flexibility, emotional resilience, and a strong team mindset.

Key responsibilities include:

n

n
- Assisting with funeral services, includingsupporting services off and onsite (church services, burials, cremations).
n
- Driving hearses and assisting with transfers, including after-hours, weekends, and on-call shifts
n
- Performingchecks and supportingcare processes
n
- Trimming coffins, preparing nameplates, and adding crosses or crucifixes in line with family requests
n
- Providing occasional support in the on-site mortuary
n
- Working closely with colleagues to ensure services run smoothly and respectfully
n
- Maintaining compliance with health, safety, quality, and operational standards
n

Essential requirements:

n

n




- Physically fit and able to safely lift, carry, and manoeuvre coffins (medical assessment required)
n
- Comfortable working around deceased persons and in emotionally challenging environments
n
- Strong communication skills with a calm, respectful, and empathetic approach
n
- During training, availability for a minimum of 3 full days per week onsite is required
n
- A reliable team player who works well in high-trust environments
n
- Current unrestricted driver's licence
n
- Initial 4-day induction held in Holland Park (Brisbane)
n
- Ongoing flexibility required for day shifts, nights, weekends, and on-call work
n

- Exposure to funeral services or a strong willingness to learn (not essential)
