An exciting opportunity is available for a Vocationally Registered (VR) GP to join a specialist inpatient mental health and addiction service on a permanent part-time basis.

This is a long-term opportunity for a GP looking to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, providing ongoing medical care and case management to inpatients.

The Role

- 24 hours per week
- Thursday and Friday are mandatory
- Remaining hours and days are negotiable
- Salaried position with Medicare billings retained by the service
- Approximately $279,000 p.a. package including super, based on 24 hours per week
- The service provides GP coverage 7 days per week, with generally two GPs working at any one time.

What You'll Be Doing

The workload is relatively consistent regardless of patient occupancy, with the role focused on providing comprehensive medical care within an inpatient mental health and addiction setting.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Recent patient admissions
- Patient discharges
- General medical reviews
- Attending multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
- Contributing to individual treatment and care plans
- Ongoing medical case management
- Working closely with psychiatrists and the broader clinical team
- Referring patients between GP and psychiatry as clinically appropriate
- Supporting continuity of care throughout the inpatient journey

On a busy day,



you may see approximately:

- 3 new admissions
- 4-5 medical reviews
- MDT and case-planning responsibilities

This role would suit a GP who is comfortable working within an inpatient mental health and addiction environment, rather than a traditional high-volume general practice consulting model.

The Criteria
To be considered for this opportunity, you will require:

- Fellowship / Vocational Registration- FRACGP/FRACCRM
- Current AHPRA Specialist registration
- Appropriate medical indemnity insurance
- Experience or a strong interest in mental health and/or addiction medicine is highly regarded
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary inpatient environment
