About the role
You'll find, win and grow container and general freight customers across Perth, the port, regional WA and interstate. Within 12 months, success means a healthy pipeline, a base of regular customers, and/or partnerships that widen what we can offer. Many customers will know us for bulk rather than containers, so expect to build credibility from the first call. You will own this and have full freedom to grow the sector and have full accountability.
Key responsibilities
- Build a target list of freight forwarders, customs brokers, importers, exporters and general freight shippers, and keep the pipeline current in our CRM.
- Understand the Batth haulage operational capability across existing operations, stakeholders and contractor partnerships for existing equipment and personnel as well as future capital investment to meet new work.
- Win new business through existing contacts, researching the market, site visits, referrals, networking and industry events.
- Price freight with operations, prepare rates and proposals, then negotiate and close out contracts.
- Find and develop partnerships with container parks, warehousing and third-party logistics (3PL) providers, forwarders and other carriers, including joint ventures and subcontract arrangements.
- Help leadership shape the service offer, including equipment, depot and partner options, around the customers you win.
- Hand new customers smoothly to operations, ensure that the planning has been done right so they can hit the ground running and the customer relationship is maintained from start, then grow each account organically in cooperation with operations.
- Share leads relevant with our Bulk Haulage BDM so nothing slips through the cracks, we are one team.
About you
- At least 3 years in a recent-business sales or BD role in container transport, freight forwarding, general freight or road transport.
- New accounts you personally won, and the ability to explain how you won them.
- Experience pricing freight and building quotes.
- Strong understanding of what potential customers want and the ability to engage with different customers to form long term relationships through offering services and rates that they require.
- Existing relationships with WA forwarders, customs brokers, importers or exporters.
- Knowledge of Fremantle container logistics, such as port booking systems, empty container parks and detention.
- Understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations.
- Experience setting up a new division, branch or territory.
Benefits
- Direct access to Senior leadership and quick decisions, no red tape.
- The chance to build a division and set its direction.
- Attractive bonus remuneration.
