A global mining contractor has entered an alliance with another global operator, the first arrangement of its kind for the business. It holds the contracting rights and an ownership position in the mine. The operation is new, so the finance function is still being built, and whoever takes this role builds a large part of it.

For an accountant that means operational level finance, commercial partnering, and being in the decisions as they happen rather than reporting on them afterwards. The systems, processes and team you put in place now are what this project runs on for years. You will work alongside a Finance Manager with fifteen years in the organisation.

The roster works because two accountants run it back to back. You fly out and the next fortnight is covered. You fly back in and the last fortnight is done. You work roughly half the year for a full year's income, and you do it from one of the best camps in Queensland.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager, you are the commercial function on site. You own cost reporting and the financial accounts, and you work across site leadership, operations, the joint venture partner and the corporate team in Brisbane. Half the job is making sure the project runs properly from a finance perspective. The other half is making sure everyone involved knows the operational and financial position.

You are also expected to put your hand up. Help the team out, fix the systems and processes that need fixing, and keep things moving without waiting to be asked. The site is remote and the roster is fixed, so if site work is not something you want for a few years at least, this is not the role for you.

What You'll Do
You own the reporting and cost cadence for the site, working to deadlines that the leadership team relies on.

- Complete end of month deliverables and reporting on time
- Facilitate monthly cost reviews,



including analysis of key variances to budget
- Act as the key contributor to cost build ups for annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
- Drive financial awareness across the site and keep financial practice in line with company policy
- Identify financial risks at an early stage
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

Who You Are
Attitude comes first. The technical bar is important and it is set out below, but the people who do well on site are the ones who own their work, stand their ground with operational leaders, and are good to be around for eight days at a time.

Two types of people tend to excel here. The first is an energetic, ambitious accountant with no mining background who is willing to commit to site for several years, build the experience and build the relationships. The second is someone who already knows site life, likes flying out, and wants to keep doing it.

- CA or CPA qualified, or well progressed
- JDE experience, outstanding to have

The Offer
Above market salary for the level, and you work about half the year to earn it. Travel sits inside your roster rather than in your own time, flights are paid, and a site allowance applies. Drive in drive out is available if you would rather move closer.

The camp is state of the art, with a pool and basketball courts, gym facilities etc, and it is one of the better ones in the state. The business is one of the largest mining contractors in the world, and this alliance is the first of its kind for them, so the experience you get here is not easy to find elsewhere.
