About the role

The Good Vibrations Male Peer Mentor supports DIYDG to create welcoming, culturally safe and engaging spaces where young people can connect, build confidence and grow as leaders. The role uses shared experiences, positive relationships and practical activities to inspire, equip and empower young people.

Key responsibilities

- Welcome young people, introduce new participants and help everyone feel included

- Notice young people who are quiet, isolated or struggling to join in, and offer encouragement without pressure

- Build trusting relationships through consistency, listening and genuine interest

- Support young men to talk about identity, relationships, wellbeing, aspirations and the challenges they face

- Help plan, prepare, deliver and pack down youth nights, workshops, outings and community activities

- Bring ideas for games, sport, music, creative activities, cultural learning and practical life skills

- Co-facilitate group discussions, icebreakers and workshops, building towards greater facilitation responsibility

- Encourage young people to identify personal goals and take achievable steps towards them

- Maintain transparent professional boundaries during activities, online and outside work

- Participate in planning meetings,



shift briefings, debriefs and supervision

About you

- Available to work evenings, including regular Positive Vibrations youth nights, and occasional weekend activities or camps as agreed

- Willing to undertake and work towards completing a relevant qualification at a minimum Certificate IV level, with an agreed study and support plan

- Playful, approachable and engaging, with the ability to recognise when to shift from having fun to providing calm, clear guidance

- Able to establish and maintain respectful boundaries, including when participants are friends, relatives or people they know in community

- Reliable and organised: turns up on time, follows through on commitments and communicates when plans change

- Comfortable connecting with young people from different backgrounds, confidence levels and life experiences

- Respectful of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, identities, families and community protocols

- Willing to receive feedback, reflect on their behaviour and ask for help

- Able to meet the role's child-safety screening and organisational onboarding requirements before undertaking relevant duties
