Communications and RF Engineering Opportunities

C2A Consulting is seeking experienced Communications Engineers, RF Engineers, Tactical Data Link specialists and telecommunications professionals for current and upcoming opportunities supporting the Australian Department of Defence, Federal Government and Defence Industry.

These opportunities will suit technical professionals with experience designing, integrating, testing, sustaining or managing secure communications systems in complex operational environments. While Defence experience is highly regarded, we also welcome applications from suitably experienced professionals working across telecommunications, public safety, critical infrastructure, aerospace, transport and other highly regulated sectors.

Depending on the position, opportunities may be available on a permanent, fixed-term or contract basis in Canberra and other Defence locations.

Areas of interest

We are particularly interested in professionals with experience across one or more of the following:

- Radio frequency engineering

- Satellite communications and SATCOM ground systems

- Tactical and strategic communications systems

- C4I and command-and-control systems

- Military radio and telecommunications systems

- RF planning, analysis, modelling and optimisation

- Antennas, transmitters, receivers and RF distribution systems

- Microwave, terrestrial and beyond-line-of-sight communications

- Communications network architecture and design

- Spectrum planning and management

- Electromagnetic compatibility and interference

- Communications security and secure network environments

- Systems integration, verification and validation

- Test and evaluation of communications systems

- Technical investigations and fault analysis

- Capability acquisition, introduction into service and sustainment

Potential responsibilities

Depending on your discipline and level of experience, your responsibilities may include:

- Developing communications, RF or telecommunications system designs.

- Defining and analysing technical, operational and interface requirements.

- Producing engineering plans, specifications, reports and technical advice.

- Supporting RF performance analysis, link-budget development and coverage assessments.

- Planning and conducting integration, verification, validation and acceptance activities.

- Investigating system faults, performance limitations and technical risks.

- Supporting the acquisition, transition,



operation and sustainment of communications capabilities.

- Working with systems engineers, network engineers, technicians, project teams and operational stakeholders.

- Reviewing supplier documentation, engineering deliverables and technical proposals.

- Supporting configuration management, technical data management and engineering governance.

- Engaging with Defence, Australian Public Service, ADF and Defence Industry stakeholders.

- Contributing to engineering reviews, working groups and technical assurance activities.

What we are looking for

Candidates should bring experience in communications engineering, RF engineering, telecommunications, electronics engineering or a closely related technical discipline.

Strong candidates may also demonstrate:

- Experience supporting complex or mission-critical communications systems.

- An understanding of systems engineering and capability lifecycle principles.

- Experience translating operational needs into technical requirements.

- Strong technical analysis, troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.

- Experience preparing clear, accurate and defensible engineering documentation.

- The ability to communicate technical information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

- Experience operating within multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.

- Sound stakeholder engagement and relationship-management skills.

- An understanding of engineering governance, technical assurance and risk management.

- Experience within Defence, Federal Government or another regulated workplace.

Relevant tertiary qualifications in electrical, electronics, telecommunications, communications, systems or RF engineering will be highly regarded. Relevant technical qualifications and substantial practical experience may also be considered.

Desirable experience

Experience in any of the following will be favourably considered:

- Defence communications or mission systems

- SATCOM terminals or ground infrastructure

- Tactical data, voice or radio networks

- Command-and-control environments

- Export-controlled technology environments

Security requirements

Applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain a minimum NV1 Australian Government security clearance.

Candidates who already hold an active or inactive NV1, NV2 or Positive Vetting clearance are strongly encouraged to apply. The specific clearance requirement will depend on the position and client environment.
