An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Tax Counsel to join an established national organisation based in Sydney CBD.

This is a senior opportunity for a technically strong tax professional looking to utilise their expertise in a broader capacity, combining complex technical work with policy, stakeholder engagement, advocacy and team leadership.

Working as part of an experienced and collaborative team, you will engage with a diverse range of senior internal and external stakeholders while contributing to significant tax-related initiatives and developments.

The Role

Reporting into senior leadership, you will provide high-level technical tax expertise and contribute to a broad range of policy, advocacy and stakeholder initiatives.
Key responsibilities will include:

- Drafting and reviewing technical submissions, representations and complex written material
- Monitoring and interpreting changes across tax law, policy and administration
- Developing high-quality technical content, briefings and communications
- Contributing to tax policy and advocacy initiatives
- Participating in technical committees, working groups and external forums
- Building and maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders, government agencies and regulatory bodies
- Identifying emerging and systemic tax issues and providing technical recommendations
- Supporting senior leadership on complex tax matters
- Managing,



mentoring and developing members of a high-performing team

The position includes responsibility for managing a small team while maintaining a strong hands-on technical focus.

About You

We are looking for an experienced tax professional who can combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership capability.
You will ideally bring:

- 7–10 years' tax experience gained within a law firm, accounting firm or equivalent environment
- Tertiary qualifications in Law or Accounting
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian taxation law
- Demonstrated experience drafting complex technical advice, submissions or similar material
- Previous people management experience
- Experience engaging with committees, boards or senior stakeholder groups
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
- The ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language
- Excellent written, research and presentation skills
- Strong commercial judgement, diplomacy and influencing capability
- Further postgraduate study in Law, Tax or a related discipline will be highly regarded but is not essential.
