A leading organisation in Sydney CBD is seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to join their team. This is opportunity will give you a platform to guide and develop junior payroll officer but also utulise your strong payroll knowledge to assist with complex matters.

What you'll do:

- Manage high priority and complex pay-run activities such as annual remuneration increases, redundancy cases, and escalated employee queries, ensuring all stakeholders are well-informed throughout the process.
- Provide day-to-day technical support, workflow coordination, peer review, coaching, and guidance to payroll team members to foster a collaborative and knowledgeable environment.
- Deliver second-level specialist advice on escalated or complex payroll matters to internal teams including People Connect, employees, people leaders, and third parties, taking ownership until resolution is achieved.
- Maintain employee payroll data securely with strict confidentiality in accordance with company data security policies and privacy requirements, including weekly reporting to monitor compliance.
- Advocate for robust payroll risk mitigation practices by promoting peer review activities and segregation of duties within the team to enhance risk maturity and reduce exposure to reputational or financial loss.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the Payroll Team by regularly reviewing processes, committing to personal development, and sharing insights across the wider People & Culture team.
- Ensure all payroll activities comply with relevant legislation such as the Fair Work Act 2009, National Employment Standards, modern awards, enterprise agreements, and company policies.
- Identify potential compliance issues proactively and escalate them for timely remediation while supporting accurate record-keeping requirements.




- Work closely with cross-functional teams including Employee Relations, Performance & Reward, Talent Acquisition, Finance & Taxation, Internal Audit as well as external organisations like ANZ, ATO, Superannuation Agencies, and External Auditors.
- Coordinate day-to-day deliverables effectively by prioritising tasks independently while providing technical guidance and peer review to ensure deadlines are consistently met.

What you bring:

- Minimum of five years' practical Australian payroll experience in large organisations is essential for handling complex pay-run activities confidently.
- Experience executing payroll functions in large corporate environments enables you to navigate intricate systems and workflows effectively.
- Advanced knowledge of Australian payroll legislation allows you to interpret complex requirements accurately while building capability among colleagues.
- Demonstrated proficiency in processing complex employee terminations-including redundancies-ensures compliance with legislative, taxation, award, and enterprise agreement requirements.
- Experience working closely with payroll system providers (such as SAP, Success+, ADP GlobalView) supports smooth migrations and implementations.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail when processing payroll data ensures reliable outcomes for employees across the business.




- Excellent written and verbal communication skills enable you to convey complex information clearly to internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to deliver responsive customer service builds effective relationships with both internal teams and external partners.
- Track record of identifying improvements in payroll processes demonstrates your commitment to continuous enhancement of controls.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills facilitate validation, reconciliation, data analysis, and reporting for robust payroll management.
