About the role

An exciting opportunity is available for experienced lawyers to join a high-performing Australian Government legal team on a secondment basis.

Allygroup is supporting a Commonwealth client seeking lawyers with strong statutory interpretation, administrative law and advisory experience to provide legal advice in a complex regulatory environment.

The successful candidate will work within a collaborative legal team, advising on legislative frameworks, regulatory powers and administrative law matters. Opportunities are available for lawyers at the Senior Associate, Senior Lawyer and Special Counsel level, with flexible engagement arrangements ranging from three to twelve months.

The team is open to candidates located across Australia and operates effectively in a hybrid environment.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens. Security clearance requirements are currently being confirmed by the client.

Key responsibilities

- Providing legal advice on complex legislative and regulatory frameworks.

- Advising on statutory interpretation and administrative law matters.

- Supporting decision-makers in the exercise of legislative and statutory powers.

- Conducting legal research, analysis and drafting high-quality legal advice.

- Managing complex and sensitive legal matters with an appropriate degree of autonomy.

- Developing practical, risk-based legal solutions to support operational decision-making.

- Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal clients and stakeholders.

- Contributing to a collaborative legal team environment and sharing expertise with colleagues.

- Supporting the delivery of high-quality legal services across a diverse range of regulatory matters.

About you

- Admission to practise as a lawyer in Australia and eligibility to hold a practising certificate.

- Demonstrated experience advising on administrative law matters.

- Strong statutory interpretation skills and experience working with legislative frameworks.





- Experience providing legal advice within government, regulatory or public law environments.

- Excellent legal research, analysis and drafting skills.

- Robust stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability.

- The ability to exercise sound judgement when dealing with complex and sensitive matters.

- An adaptable and team-oriented approach to legal practice.

Highly regarded

- Commonwealth Government legal experience.

- Experience advising on regulatory frameworks.

- Public law experience.

- Experience supporting statutory decision-makers.

- Experience working within highly regulated sectors.

- Experience mentoring junior lawyers.
