Light Regional Council is located less than an hour north of the Adelaide CBD and is one of South Australia's fastest-growing regional councils. Due to an internal promotion, we are seeking a Planning Officer to join our Development Services Team based at Freeling.

The region offers a unique and diverse planning environment, encompassing heritage, rural, tourism and urban growth development. With the Roseworthy Township Expansion Area and the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan identifying significant future growth, including up to 33,000 additional homes, this role provides the opportunity to contribute to some of South Australia's most significant growth projects.

As a Planning Officer, you will assess a broad range of development applications, provide professional planning advice to internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to positive development outcomes across the region. The role is suited to a planning professional who combines sound technical knowledge with strong communication skills, practical judgement and a commitment to customer service.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess development applications in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and Council requirements.

- Provide clear and accurate planning advice to applicants, stakeholders and the community.

- Manage applications through the assessment process from verification to recommendation.

- Collaborate with internal teams,



government agencies, industry representatives and the community.

- Contribute to the sustainable growth and development of the Roseworthy Township and broader Council area.

About You

You will be degree qualified in urban and regional planning (or nearing completion) and have experience in development assessment, preferably within a local government or similar planning environment.

You will also demonstrate:

- Sound knowledge of the Planning and Design Code and PlanSA Portal.

- Experience interpreting and applying planning legislation and policy.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

- High attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes.

- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

- A collaborative, adaptable and customer-focused approach.
