Lead the Projects that shape the future of NCIG

Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) own and operates one of Australia’s major coal export terminals on Kooragang Island. Our operations bring together rail, coal storage, ship loading facilities and associated infrastructure which is connected to the Port of Newcastle.

We’re looking for an experienced Project Portfolio Manager to join our Assets & Infrastructure team and provide strategic leadership across a portfolio of infrastructure, capital and operational projects. You’ll play a key role in ensuring investment decisions, project priorities and delivery outcomes align with NCIG’s strategic objectives and the future needs of our business.

THIS IS MORE THAN PROJECT DELIVERY

As a senior leader within the Assets and Infrastructure Team, you’ll operate across both the strategic and operational space. You’ll provide the oversight, governance and leadership that enables Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex projects safely, effectively and with strong commercial discipline.

You’ll work across the project lifecycle, from business justification and scope development through to execution, commissioning and handover, whilst maintaining a clear focus on the outcomes the business needs.

A key part of your role will be turning complex project information into a clear story for senior leaders and steering committees. You’ll need to be comfortable moving between the detail and the bigger picture, influencing across the business and bringing people together around a common outcome.

Success in this role comes from creating alignment, setting direction, removing barriers and enabling others to deliver, rather than personally managing every project.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Provide strategic leadership and oversight across a portfolio of capital and operational projects, ensuring projects remain aligned with NCIG’s strategic objectives and long-term business plans.

- Manage a team that provides justification and delivery of multiple concurrent capital and operational projects, managing risk, cost, schedule, and quality outcomes.

- Provide clear, timely and professional reporting and stakeholder engagement to governance forums, including steering committees and senior stakeholders.

- Ensure robust project leadership, planning,



governance and delivery frameworks are applied across the project portfolio, supporting Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle.

- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and other business leaders to ensure projects are practical, fit for purpose and effectively integrated into the operating environment.

- Identify and manage interdependencies, risks and opportunities across the project portfolio to optimise outcomes for the business.

- Contribute to long-term capital planning and investment decision-making, ensuring projects support NCIG's future operational and infrastructure requirements.

- Develop consistency and capability across project governance and delivery practices, championing fit-for-purpose approaches that support project success.

ABOUT YOU

You’re an experienced program, portfolio or project leader who enjoys operating where strategy, people, governance and delivery intersect.

You don’t need to be the person doing every piece of project management. You’re at your best when you’re providing direction, asking the right questions, creating clarity and enabling capable people to deliver.

You’re comfortable challenging the status quo and having robust conversations when a project isn’t delivering the outcome the business needs. Equally, you know when to step back, empower others and let your Project Managers lead.

You can move comfortably between technical and commercial detail and the broader strategic context, when presenting to a steering committee or senior leadership team, you’re able to explain what it means, what matters and what decisions are required.

Most importantly, you understand that successful project delivery is only part of the equation. You’re focused on ensuring projects collectively deliver value, support business objectives and contribute to long-term organisation success.

To complement your leadership capability, you will also have:

- Extensive experience leading and overseeing a complex,



multidisciplinary project team in an operational, infrastructure, construction or heavy industry environment

- Demonstrated experience providing project governance, oversight and strategic direction across multiple projects or a project portfolio

- Strong commercial and business acumen, with the ability to balance strategic priorities, operational requirements and investment outcomes.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, meaningful and compelling narratives.

- Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, governance forums and executive leaders.
